One winning ticket was sold in New Mexico for Wednesday night's drawing, according to the New Mexico Lottery Authority. It was the only winning ticket nationwide, and would be the Lottery's second-largest prize. The winning numbers drawn were 31, 13, 49, 38, 36, and the red Powerball was 02. The prize carries a pre-tax estimated annuitized jackpot of $93.4 million, and a pre-tax cash value of approximately $52.2 million. The New Mexico winner can declare a cash or annuity option at the time the claim is filed. New Mexico Lottery officials recommend that the winning ticket should be signed immediately, since it is a bearer instrument. They also advise that the winner or winners should meet with an attorney and/or financial advisor immediately, before coming to Lottery headquarters. The winner can call the New Mexico Lottery security division, provide basic identifying information about the ticket and its purchase, and make an appointment to claim the prize at Lottery headquarters in Albuquerque. Importantly, the New Mexico Lottery requested that the winner not present the winning ticket at Lottery headquarters unannounced, as doing do would make the verification process more difficult. Prize checks are not issued on the spot. The New Mexico Powerball lottery winner can call the winner hotline at 505-342-7650. Information about the individual retailer and/or the community where the ticket was sold may not be released until the winner has been verified and the prize claimed. The winning retailer is eligible to receive $50,000 for selling the winning jackpot. Since Powerball was launched here almost nine years ago, New Mexico has also had about 140 second place winners of $100,000 to $500,000. The New Mexico Lottery joined the Powerball group in October 1996, and is one of 27 participating states plus the District of Columbia and US Virgin Islands. In addition to the 140 $100,000 winners in New Mexico (five winning numbers but no Powerball), there have been almost 750 $5,000 to $25,000 third prize (four winning numbers plus the Powerball). The New Mexico Lottery has already raised almost $250 million for public education, including more than $182 million for the Lottery Success Scholarship program. Well over 35,000 students so far have received their in-state college tuition paid by the Lottery Success Scholarship, with an updated student count pending. It was good to see another nice jkpt go to NM, although I must admit I really thought this one would roll again. I guess this next jackpot cycle will likely take us into the new Powerball matrix. ... the lottery never fails to surprise!

Likely as not the winner's some trucker, tourist, traveling minstrel, RV retiree from PA. Lots of NM lottery tickets sold to out-of-state residents passing through on their way to places where their future neighbors wish they'd stayed home, broken down in New Mexico, or missed a turn and landed in California, Michigan, Mississippi, or Mexico City. I am confused as to why you should not go immediately to the HQ, get a million or so advance (they do that a lot) and then spend the (probably 30-day) waiting period doing the financial advising routine? Uncle (25%) and state (6%) will get their's in either case. Yet you would have some spending cash, and not be in a hurry to commit to a fast talking financial/banking guy.

Nice to see someone other than PA win! Whoa - I buy my tickets in PA! I don't buy my tickets with my money to hope some one else wins. I congradulate the winner, but would rather it be me, and there is a better chance of it being me, if it is a PA winner.

I so agree with the above posters, but you guys forgot a few of the other perpetual winners: SD, IA and KY. And boy it would have so great to have had it roll over to that Aug. 28 (I believe) changeover. Oh well - I'm not a sore looser . . . . congrats to the winner! Hope it was some needy (legal) immigrant.

Jack i was hoping it might've been you who won! Thanks Mike. So was I hoping it until I saw the results. I had 20 tickets with 13 numbers spread out among them, unwheeled. Those tickets had four of the six numbers that hit, provided you allow me to count the 2, which I had down as a white ball, not as the red it passed itself off as. I thought it was a pretty nice set of numbers, that PB draw last night. No complaints from where I'm sitting. I hope that PA trucker, or RV jockey, or traveling minstrel, or tourist who won it has him/herself a terrific time spending it. J
