I received a variation of the old e-mail lottery scam this morning, so I thought I'd post it to warn others.It comes under the subject line Visa Card Award Promotion. It's amazingly silly, but you'd be surprised just how many gullible and desperate people there are out there who fall for this scam.I love the part that warns about breaching confidentiality -- you can't tell anyone that you won! Multi-State Game Free Ticket Promotions.
New York is offering a buy $5 worth of Mega Millions tickets, get an additional $1 ticket for free. That increases the chances that the jackpot will be won in New York. I'm guessing the lottery thought so since they did give the green light for the promotion, and if the jackpot win is in New York, they get the state taxes on it. Last night when I bought my Kentucky Pick-4 tickets, I was given two free 50 cent straight tickets. I didn't win $2500 but it's still a nice promotion. Ohio runs a red ball promotion that adds an extra $100 to its Pick-3 games a couple times a year and also increases the Ten-Oh payoffs by 50% on certain days of the week during that game's promotion period. I just wanted to get something off my chest. I know NY lottery officials visit LP, and that's cool. This week if we buy $5 of Lotto, we get one free Take Five QP. That promotion is supposed to bring a smile to people's faces. I get more excited from a supermarket coupon. Although that promotion is better than nothing, I find it almost an insult... just like Mega Millions increasing the base jackpot by a paltry $2 million, instead of $5 million.
