Personal Numbers
This has evolved into a pretty good thread. I'm surprised that nobody bothered to rate it before now, so I just rated it as Excellent - 5 stars. Nothing changes the odds of hitting a jackpot, but my own experience has shown me that employing some systematic methods can result in cashing more and bigger tickets for the secondary prizes. As for the debate about whether or not the odds of a given combination being drawn again remain the same once they've been drawn, the answer is.... Yes,

Personal Numbers
FWIW, the winning numbers in MM have been all odd or all even only 4 times in the last 100 drawings, which is about 1 less than expected based on probability and pure randomness. Statistically, the departure is completely insignificant. Interestingly, all 4 of those results have happened since June, 30, a period on which we'd have expected the result to happen just over 2 times. 3 of them have happened since mid-August and 2 in the last 4 weeks. That means this would have been a bad period to b

Mega Millions Sets A New Record
I think the only record Mega is pushing for is how long it takes to hit a record. Considering the odds there should have been a much higher jackpot by now but there hasn't been. Euromillions has 100 million less combinations and it shattered all records. I have a feeling the Euromillions run is a rare event though. With Megamillions I'm shocked it has only broke 300 million once since it was created. The odds before the matrix change were very high, now the odds are 1:175 million and I'm still w

Ever wish not to win the PB...
I am wishing not...Last night at work, we found our boss's fortune cookie numbers,, and we knew he ran those..Well actually he is my boss at the other store where I work as well.. For a joke we ran and bought up 7 of them... At the time, I thought it would be funny to play his numbers in the event they came out, he would have to split his winnings.. Now it doesn't seem too funny.. After time to think about it.. it was a childish thing to do..Any way the odds are on my side that no one will win.

Will someone win a starting level MM JP?
Last year there were only 6 starting jackpots. In general the probability that a starting jackpot will get hit is about 8%. Thus the probability that there will be is winning ticket on a starting ticket is 0.08*6 = 0.48. It can be shown statistically, if last year is typical for the occurance of starting jackpots, that one would expect a starting jackpot to be won about every two years. However last year is not representative, since the odds have been changed. I would expect that it would t

CDN Lotto 649 Sets A New Record
It's probably too late to join existing pools for tonight's $40 million draw, but there is still a 6% chance that the jackpot will roll over again for Saturday. In that event, how do we go about settting up a pool? My idea is that if we get enough players, then we can buy a bunch of 8-number combination plays. For example, if we get 40 members willing to spend C$42 each through Paypal, then we can buy 10 8-number combinations, covering 840 possibilities. The tickets can be scanned and emailed to

Did anyone notice the awesome 3rd tier Calif Mega Millions prize?
I checked both the websites of California and New York and both states contribute 32% of their MegaMillions tickets sales to the jackpot and use 18% of those sales to pay the other prizes. I assume the same is true for all MegaMillions states although they don't post it on their websites. Since California decided to go pari-mutuel after each game, winners won't know what they've won until after the money is counted and divided by a formula that depends on the number of winners in the state and
