I always play the multiplier option. In PB or Mega, I always hope to get the 4 WB + PB(MB) as my main win and that prize is best in the PB over Mega. Of course Mega has PB beat on the 5-0 prize with multiplier. But using the multiplier has helped me to win back more of my losses when I am lucky enough to get the PB(MB) or perhaps one or two of the WBs. I have been lucky enough to get the 10x multiplier in PB a couple of times. I probably recklessly spent $90 on the Tuesday Mega, but got the #25

Powerball is too stingy with their multiplier. If you want to play the multiplier, I'd go with Mega Millions. Thanks for posting those multiplier stats.

The multiplier options only make sense if you actually win something. Since MM and PB are lose a lot lotteries, I don't play the multiplier option most of the time. The most it paid off for me was an extra $10 in MM. Of course, it was x2, the lowest multiplier.

It appears the Multiplier option is better for Mega Millions than the other multistate lotteries: Powerball Lotto America. Below we can see Mega Millions has a better payout for x4 than the other lotteries.

The overall odds of the various prize categories in Mega and PB are pretty close, but he amounts of the prizes vary as you noted. For example should one get a 4-0 ticket in PB, it only pays $100, but if you were able to get the red PB with those 4 numbers, it pays $50,000!! In Mega if you get a 4-0 ticket it pays $500 and if you get the Mega Ball with those 4 numbers, it pays $10,000. This is 2 of the biggest differences in the two games. Powerball's 4+0, 3+1 3+0 payouts haven't changed since its beginning way back in 1992; the 2+1, 1+1 0+1 are willfully mediocre at best, but the odds have gone up. In addition to the doubling of the cost to play; triple if you chose the multiplier, is really a loosing bet. Unless the multiplier is at least x3 or better, no way; as we can see the Powerball loves its x2. At least Mega Millions has made changes to these payouts and its multiplier gives some hope; so, we tend to play that

Well dang, I could not post my predictions in time but I got the Mega Ball 14 + 33 and 39. I was so happy there was a 4x Multiplier!
