I mostly play $5 games, with a mix of some $10 games too. Pretty much never play $1, $2 or $3 games. Actually, I like $5 Calif Black, one of my favorites. Even though the odds are not the greatest on paper, I'm getting about 73% back on that game, which is better than game odds of 70.4% total. No big wins, but got $100 a few times through several hundred tickets. Plus have the possibility of higher $250,000 top prize instead of $100,000 from the other $5 games. That doesn't surprise me since the odds of hitting $100 is about 1 in 5 books. The Wheel of Fortune game has odds of 1 in 4 books. I only bought 1 $5 book throughout my time playing scratchoffs. I was fortunate enough to find a $100 winner in the Escape To Margatitaville book I played. With the $5 ticket, I feel like they've took a risk. The chances of hitting the top jackpot is bad compared to $5 games we've seen recently, however, the chances of hitting $5k might be one of the best we've seen (since the existence of scratchoff tickets, can a veteran confirm?) 1 in 30k for a $5k prize on a $5 ticket would be a pretty nice hit. And I think it is a fair expectation. Many of us were in doubt about whether or not a jackpot prize was out there on the $10 Holiday Gifts because of how long it has been since release without any being found. Gambling wins were not taxable to the state of PA before (now it looks like that is changing however) and when filing in the past I'm not even sure you'd have been able to put that information on a state tax return. If you did, you would include it on a W2-G usually and in the breakdown of your income there would be a spot for those types of incomes so the state should have known how to file it and you shouldn't have been taxed on it.
