State audit questions Georgia Lottery business practices despite record profits to education
Georgia sells more lottery tickets per capita than all but one other state lottery, according to a state audit of the Georgia Lottery Corporation, the quasi-governmental agency that runs it. But a steadily declining portion of lottery revenues flow back to the education programs the lottery is required by law to fund, and the corporation that runs the lottery needs to reform its business practices, according to auditors in the Performance Audit Division of the Georgia Department of Audits and

Question For Possible Petition- Maybe For Todd or Not?
Was just looking at TN's pick-3 pay charts and not only are they the worst in the country and they even use a different lottery lingo. I'll bet the pick-3 players living near the Kentucky state line play in KY where 50 cent straight exact order ticket pays $300 and a 3-way box any order pays $100. It looks like TN offers a 50 cent straight exact order bet and rather than allowing a player to make one bet on one ticket, they want to make the players waste their time making six different bets.

Dont You Think: To the State Lottery...
When most state started lotteries, they tried to justify them by designating where the profits go. In many states it was to be used as a supplement for education and in a few it was scholarship programs. If you ever read the Lottery News on this site, you would know what happens when scholarship goals exceeded the profits. many problems in the world occur because someone is not educated or ignorant not because someone who has a high grade cant stay in school... That's a totally different

N.M. acts to save Lottery scholarship fund
Let me see if I understand this right. The State has a lottery. This lottery generates money on a daily basis. Yet the scholarship fund is running out of money . How? If the games generates money daily, shouldn't money be coming into the fund daily? Tennessee also has a scholarship lottery. Tennessee also is running out of money . Then a few of us look closer. We see that the Legislature has diverted some of this money for other projects. I think we built a survival shelter for the governor

Arkansas Lottery may not be able to meet scholarship demands
That sounds sensible to me. I think the only reason they rush into the scholarship/education thing is because that's how they sell the concept of a lottery to the holier-than-thou politicians who wouldn't support it otherwise. If the lottery were a real private business, there's no way they would rush into the big scholarship giveaways without a good deal of research first. (To make sure they don't run out of money.)

TN lottery scholarships safe from cuts
UT study shows shortfall is less than previously projected The dollar shortfall between Tennessee lottery revenue and the scholarship programs it funds is much less than previously projected, a study shows, indicating that lottery scholarships won't have to be cut or made harder to get. The Commercial Appeal of Memphis reported that the study by the University of Tennessee Center for Business and Economic Research was presented this week at the Lottery Scholarship Stabilization Task Force'

Tenn. lottery scholarships outstrip revenue; day of reckoning looms
I think I was standing in line behind one of the Tennessee Lottery scholarship fund directors at Wal Mart yesterday. They had a cart full of stuff but didn't have enough money to pay for it so they started giving back some of the items. What I don't understand is why would the Tennessee Lottery scholarship fund say they would distribute an actual amount of money based on projected lottery profits. But then again we are talking about state legislators that believe Rebecca Hargrove is the best

Tenn. lottery scholarships outstrip revenue; day of reckoning looms
The Tennessee Lottery could raise additional revenue if the has a subscription service. I have just checked it's website and they don't offer a subscription service. If they did have one I would subscribe. I read of it's site, More Than $1.5 Billion Raised For Education! , which is very impressive. I was also thinking that recipients of scholarship awards should contribute to the scholarship program. I still donate to my college every year to assist current and future students; w

Tennessee Lottery shortfall requires reserves
$10 million needed to fully fund scholarship grants for students Are computerized drawings hurting sales? Will the Tennessee Lottery bring back real ball drawings? Why is Powerball always blamed for poor financial showing in Tennessee? The state of Tennessee probably will have to pull about $10 million from reserves to keep lottery scholarships fully funded this year, budget officials said after reporting a revenue shortfall last week. State Budget Director Bill Bradley said the state w

Kentucky Lottery reports record revenues, lower profits
The Kentucky Lottery brought in record revenues despite a souring economy, an audit released Wednesday showed. The audit of the Kentucky Lottery showed that the lottery brought in $778.2 million up about 4.6 percent from the previous year but its profits were down about 2.7 percent. That's because the lottery increased its prize payouts to players and paid higher retailer commissions. But the amount of money the lottery paid to state scholarship programs, including the Kentucky Educational
