Illinois stay-at-home mom wakes up to a crying baby and $1.4 million Lucky Day Lotto jackpot
Bless this mother and her baby... at least she won't worry about her baby's future education plans (among others).

$1.08 billion Powerball lottery winner Yanira Alvarez filed claim for jackpot over five months ago
I thought a lottery ticket is a bearer's instrument (it is written so on the back of many tickets). Some basic vetting is appropriate (i.e., where when did you buy this ticket?), but police interviews, checking the store's video feed, waiting months to award you the money, etc.) is way over-the-top. It seems like nowadays they (the state lotteries) can potentially come up with any reason for refusing to give you the money you won, and I think that's way too much power for them when in fact WE (l

Kentucky woman quits job after winning $90,000 in the lottery
I did not say she didn't. I have a business degree but I wasn't where I wanted to be so I took a few classes at a community college and ended up in a better job. A little extra education can help in many cases.
Whatever she does, I wish her well.

$36 million Mega Millions ticket sold in Florida goes unclaimed
By Todd Northrop
Someone who purchased a Mega Millions lottery ticket last August in Florida has forfeited a life-changing $36 million prize payout after the winning ticket expired last week.
No one stepped up to claim the prize from the August drawing before the Sunday, Feb. 11 deadline, rendering the Mega Millions lottery ticket void.
As a result, the winner has no chance of claiming the winnings the ticket is now only worth the paper it was printed on, said Michelle Griner, a spok

California Lottery announces group as winners of historic $1.765 billion Powerball jackpot
Interesting.
I think the education system in Britain is much better than United States. The British appear to understand probabilities much better.
In Britain, most jackpots are won by pools. They are referred to as syndicates in Britain.
There is mathematical proof. Your odds of winning increase dramatically with more tickets bought.

$36 million Mega Millions ticket sold in Florida goes unclaimed
This was the only unclaimed Mega Millions jackpot ticket in 2023
Only one? With just 6 jackpots in 2023 what are the odds that only 16.67% of them would go unclaimed?
Using that math formula, 80% of $36 million is $28.8 million (which goes to education), and 20% is $7.2 million (going back to future prizes).
Using a better formula 80% is $13.92 million because they're probably not going to put that money in to a 29 year annuity.

Alabama Lottery bill falls short by one vote
Alabama lawmakers sick of indecision following years of debate
By Kate Northrop
A bill to authorize a state lottery and casinos in Alabama failed by just one vote, the closest the state has ever come to enacting a state lottery since 1999.
One vote made the difference in the Alabama legislative session, resulting in voters just barely missing out on seeing a lottery question on the ballot this year.
The last time Alabama residents saw a lottery proposal in the voting booth was in
