State taxes - my experience
I love that Trust idea. Do you have to set up the Trust before you hit the jackpot? What kind of Trust is best for this? According to Investopedia, Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming do not levy state income taxes, while New Hampshire doesn t tax earned wages. South Dakota has a Registration of Trust cost of $125. From greensfelder.com, States where you can avoid income taxes In states such as Kansas you can avoid state i

Massachusetts lottery and it's success
How is Massachusetts able to run one of the most successful and well managed lottery in the nation. I think, per capita, its residents play at a higher percentage than most states and win more prizes. I guess it doesn't hurt when two neighboring states' (Rhode Island and New Hampshire) residents come to your state to play as well. I'd expect that if you sign your own name the lottery would verify that you're the legitimate winner, and then gladly make the payment to a trust or LLC that you o

State-by-State Comparison: Scratchers Sales vs PB/MM Sales
I went through every US state lottery's most recent financial report to see how sales of scratchers compare to sales of Powerball and Mega Millions. Some states didn't have granular data available, but where it is available, you can see scratchers out-sell PB/MM by a wide margin. In two states (OR and SD) lottery sales are dominated by video lottery, and scratchers and draw game sales are just a drop in the bucket. Two other states (ND and WY) don't even sell scratchers. In all states, I did not
