For some, Illinois Lottery app makes ticket-buying too easy
When Illinois launched its first-in-the-nation lottery app in January, Matthew Ruder quickly signed up so he could jockey for jackpots with just a tap of the finger on his smartphone. It's really easy to buy lottery tickets on the big draw days, said Ruder, 40, of Pekin in central Illinois. I can just log in to it, add some money to it, buy some tickets, and then I have them right there instead of stopping at the store. It just makes it easier sometimes. State lottery officials hope the

Colorado moves to forbid online lottery sales
This is discrimination against midget players and that's why you never see them win. They can't reach the playslips or buttons on the scratch-off machine, so without online sales they will never have a chance. I wonder how Brian would feel if he had to climb on his buddys shoulder to buy a ticket.

Michigan Lottery gears up for online sales in spring
The Michigan Lottery plans to begin selling online subscriptions for games such as Mega Millions and Powerball starting this spring. The state says the move will bring in more revenue for schools and improve the lottery experience, but some businesses are concerned it will hurt in-store ticket sales. Daily 3, Daily 4 and Club Keno would not be part of the initial program, which allows customers to sign up for multiple ticket purchases over a period of time. A new system called iLottery

Illinois Lottery to add Powerball online ticket sales
The bill moved to the Senate 62-47, only two votes above the bare minimum needed for passage. The measure also calls for a study on how online lottery sales impact convenience stores and other retailers that sell lottery tickets. You must have missed that part because it was the state Senate that called for the study. I got the figures from the Illinois Lottery 2010 Annual Report so it's obvious the lottery doesn't need a consultant/tax crusader (whatever that means). I suppose the Senat

States up the online ante
The director of the New York State lottery said a few months ago he had cleared hurdles in his quest to sell lottery tickets over the Internet, but now that plan is stalling. When the U.S. Justice Department in December narrowed its interpretation of the 50-year-old Wire Act, saying it banned only sports betting and not other forms of online gambling, the decision sparked hope in state capitals that lotteries could start selling tickets online and lead a charge into online gambling. But th

Online Ticket Sites
Well I know we are not to be here promoting other web sites. But I have been curious about how ticket sales can be made online. My state is not set up for that yet.

Maryland Lottery Director says online sales coming
If, like in Europe, all winners remain anonymous, and there is no tax on lottery winnings, then I would have a lot less misgivings about online sales. However, I contend that buying your tickets on line just makes it that much harder to keep it a secret. I think hackers would immediately set about finding out whose computer the winning ticket was sold on.

Ruling by Justice Dept. opens a door on online gambling
And also interesting info. Online sales accounted only 5% from total tickets sales. Another 95% peoples go to retailers. Why? Because they want real ticket which they can touch and feel.

PA Millionaire Raffle
Wow- it looks like sales are getting REAL slow. I've searched online, and I can't find anything about what happens with the unsold ones. I'm GUESSING that if those numbers come in, then Pennsylvania keeps the money. I might buy another ticket in a week or so, if I do I'll post back here. Thanks for the update, GameGrl!

Divide and Conquer: Meet the Lottery Titans
Enveloped in neon lights, murmuring crowds and the tinny melody of computerized games, a convention center showroom here bears the trappings of a Las Vegas casino. But the players, mostly state employees sporting suits and name tags, haven't come to this annual expo to gamble. Instead, they are sampling the wares of one of government's biggest cash cows: lotteries, which rang up about $202 billion in sales last year in the United States and overseas. Amid sales pitches and glad-handing, there
