Florida Lottery announces changes in response to reports of repeat winners
The Florida Lottery on Tuesday announced that it would adopt several safeguards to prevent fraud and protect players.
The announcement follows a Palm Beach Post investigation published Sunday that revealed that many players may be winning big prizes too often. It also comes as legislators consider taking more control of the lottery by placing it under a gambling commission.

Legislator demands greater scrutiny of Florida Lottery
The vice chairwoman of the Florida Senate Gaming Committee, Sen. Maria Sachs, called for greater scrutiny of the Florida Lottery after a Palm Beach Post investigation revealed some people are winning big prizes against enormous odds.
Sachs, D-Delray Beach, has been an advocate of folding the lottery into a state gaming commission, which would be overseen by legislators and include all forms of gambling in the state. She said The Post's investigation further emphasized that need.

Orlando man claims $46 million Florida Lotto jackpot

The Florida Lottery announced Tuesday that James Caldwell of Orlando claimed a $46 million jackpot from the Dec. 18 drawing.
Caldwell chose to receive his winnings in a one-time, lump-sum payment of $28,759,280, according to lottery officials.
Caldwell declined media requests for comment.

Florida lottery ticket worth $1.3 million about to expire
Someone who bought a Mega Money lottery ticket over the summer in south Miami-Dade is a millionaire and may not even know it.
To make matters worse, unless they come forward in the next week or so they will be out of luck.

Deadline passes: $16 million Powerball jackpot goes unclaimed
The 180-day window passed late Thursday with no one coming forward to claim a $16.66 Powerball jackpot from a ticket bought in Hillsborough County, Florida.
