Nevada Gov. flip-flops on lottery
True or not, it doesn't really matter
Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons might not remember it, but the record shows he has flip-flopped on the issue of a state lottery.
Gibbons told a town hall audience in Minden last week, I have no problem with a lottery. As they have for decades, lawmakers are again considering creating a state lottery in Nevada.
Asked about his stance in an interview, Gibbons said, I never have opposed a lottery. When did you hear that?
Gibbons' previous opposition is in ...

A Nevada Lottery? The Line Forms in California
On a recent afternoon, lines of customers snaked to the door of the Primm Valley Lotto Store, a bustling hut just over the border in California. The parking lot was packed with cars sporting Nevada license plates.
The hut, on a dead-end street paved for the sole purpose of crossing that border, holds two important distinctions. It is the lottery ticket vendor closest to Las Vegas, 45 miles to the northeast. And it sells more lottery tickets than any other vendor in California, according to th ...

Nevada Assembly passes lottery bill
Senate vote is next step
The Nevada Assembly voted Wednesday for a lottery in the nation's No. 1 gambling state, despite arguments that it would compete with slot machines and other games of chance.
AJR7 is the latest version of a plan that since the 1970s has failed about two dozen times to win legislative approval. The measure advanced on a 31-11 vote and now moves to the Senate.

Nevada lottery plan approved by committee
A Nevada Assembly panel voted Thursday to back a plan for a lottery in the nation's No. 1 gambling state, despite arguments that it would compete with slot machines and other games of chance.

Lottery supporters in Nevada try again
Advocates of a lottery in the nation's No. 1 gambling state have faced a long run of bad luck in getting Nevada legislators to back the idea but they're betting the time is right for one more attempt.
Among the 200-odd bills and resolutions introduced by a Monday deadline was a measure to remove a prohibition against lotteries that's now part of the Nevada Constitution.
Similar proposals have been rejected by the Legislature more than two dozen times since 1970, although in 1990 Nevadans d ...
