Illinois Lottery cuts ties with private manager
The split between the Illinois Lottery and its private manager, Northstar Lottery Group, is now official after three years of acrimony over lower-than-expected revenues. The termination agreement, signed Tuesday by Gov. Pat Quinn, comes a little more than three months after he directed lottery officials to sever ties with the company after it fell short of promised revenues for the third consecutive year. At the time, the company had posted record profits to the state, but those figures st

The Texas Lottery Commission is moving forward with next year's launch of an unusual new game after getting a favorable ruling on its legality from Attorney General Greg Abbott. Lottery pool can't be a business in Tennessee
In a formal opinion, the state attorney general has declared that Tennessee law prohibits participation in a lottery pool managed by a third party throwing cold water on a Blount County man's idea for a part-time business, though apparently not on informal pools among friends. State Rep. A $50 instant lottery ticket may be in the future, say Ohio Lottery officials buoyed by the success of the agency's first $30 instant ticket. The next step in the lottery world is the $50 ticket, lottery director Dennis Berg told lottery commission members at a recent meeting. We have talked about it here and there are conflicting opinions. Logically it is the next price point, but we do not know when it will happen. Texas appears to be the only state with a $50 ticket, made available by

A businessman who said he owns trademarks to the lottery's name can't sue the Arkansas Lottery Commission, the state Supreme Court ruled Thursday. In a 4-3 decision, the high court reversed a lower court's decision and dismissed a lawsuit from Ed Dozier's company, Alpha Marketing, against the lottery commission. The court said the commission is a state entity entitled to sovereign immunity, which prohibits lawsuits against the state. Because a judgment for Alpha would operate to control t
