You raise a very interesting question.

Personally, it appears to be common practice in human nature to often repeat any activity in order to sharpen skills improve results. By learning from past mistakes we strive to do better next time. I think anyone can win... as most of us walk into a store and buy a qp or play our own numbers. Every week a few people win second tier prizes that makes it worth playing. I agree that depending on the lottery as a way to fund retirement without another financial plan isn't smart. I have also taken my own advice as I now just play PB, $12 a week. I'm playing for matching 5/6 thats my personal goal.

To answer some of your questions I have no idea how many people win a second tier jackpot per year and ever since the matrix for MM changed to 75 balls it has brought about far less 2nd place winners. The reason I even play MM on occasion is in the hopes of a secondary prize since I always play with the multiplier with the extra dollar and a person could have a chance of winning from 2 to 5 million ( though after taxes it's much less). Why did you not ask them for their tips on how to go about winning the lottery given that it's so easy for these folk?

Those pick 3, 4, 5 games have the best odds out of all of them, They may not pay out much, but at least you get something instead of nothing when one plays MM and PB.

The winners I talked to said they no longer played anyone because it wouldn't be fair to other players if they kept winning they believed they could again. I think they won a $52 million jp ended up with around $18 mil after taxes. That's a decent amount, I wouldn't feel the need to play anymore after winning something like that.

Reading it at face value, for those folks that are finding it way too easy to win, then why aren't they repeatedly winning major jackpots? If they're not playing anymore, I'm sure somebody would be more than happy to hire them to snag wins for others.

Something's are possible, others are not. Winning what you call a decent amount is subjective to interpretation.

What is decent for one person may not be the same for another.For instance there are persons who are not interested in playing jackpots that are starting out, they want to start betting when it climbs into the $200 mil range. Nothing wrong with that but you get my point on the topic decent ... I surmise.

That comes out to about 12 people per year from a pool of nearly 2 billion tickets per year.

Easy for 204 people doesn't mean it's true, or that it's even remotely, possibly true for you. Especially when 33.7 billion other tickets lose.

I agree. I enjoying the thrill of discovering if a number might hit in a nightly draw. For me, this is a hobby. I have won here and there but I never lose sight of the fact that the odds are always stacked against me. Never rely on the lottery for financial independence.

I have to agree.

People should realize that the lottery is a sucker bet, and that most likely they'll never win a jackpot. That said, there's nothing wrong with playing, provided you don't get carried away with how much you spend.

The way this thing is set up shyguitar, more people are supposed to lose in favor of a lucky few. So it's best to spend as little as possible on lottery. Don't let the MA lottery website fool you with images of people smiling holding those big checks. It's a marketing gimmick. What they don't show you are the millions who spend a fortune and still never win. I'm happy that you were able to force yourself to spend less. Don't stop.

It seems way more likely to lose big time than to win a jackpot ever (especially when you take the odds of MM PB into consideration).
