Sorry to hear you're having knee trouble. I've got a bit of arthritis in my right knee and fortunately it only hurts like crazy when stormy weather's coming.

Crazy story about how I chose to have my heart attack during a stress test. I was out pushing a snowblower up and down our driveway when I got an odd, fluttering sensation in my chest and I couldn't catch my breath. I'll turn 70 in October

I've got a longer wait before turning 70. My heart is in great shape, but my knee makes it difficult to take full advantage of the heart. As long as it wasn't going to cause other problems I'd give up 30% of my heart capacity if it would make the knee good enough... [ More ]

I also know that what caused my heart attack was a chunk of plaque tearing loose inside my arteries and lodging in my heart. That could very, very easily have led to a stroke at the same time as the heart attack. I dodged multiple bullets that day.

Thank you, Artist 77 and Coin Toss, for the kind words. I cherish every day as a blessing. Unfortunately, my widowmaker came with damage and my heart is reduced in functionality so it's pumping around 1/3 as much blood each beat as normal. I get tired very easily and can't lift anything more than 30 pounds. Thankfully, I have a wonderful wife who has really stepped up to make life tolerable. OhSoClose, I'm glad you're ok too. A couple I knew, husband goes to cardio clinic for scheduled check up, gets You're fine . Leaving the clinic has a heart attack in the parking lot and is a goner. Things like that make me think two of the greatest gifts are finding work you truly love and dying in your sleep. Nothing wrong with 'waking up dead'.

I had mine during a stress test. One minute I'm on the treadmill holding on for dear life and the next thing I knew I was in the cardiac cath recovery looking up at a nurse. Later found out that I'd had what they call a widowmaker. Went down on a moving treadmill like a sack of potatoes. If it had happened literally anywhere other than at the cardiologist's office, I would have had the happy ending you mentioned.

not necessarily. i knew at least 2 people who ate red meat almost every day and lived to be in their 90s. they didn't smoke, occasionally had beer and wine, ate their vegetables.

A guy paid $250,000 to be able to fly all over the world anytime he wanted. He had bought a lifetime flyer pass or something like that. He would fly to France for a crepe breakfast, to Japan for a lunch of Sushi and then fly to Italy for a pizza dinner and he would do things like this constantly. The airline cancelled the ticket program because the $250,000 cost of the lifetime flight ticket was costing them money.

Yes, by a lot. I don't play because I like to gamble, but because I'm very poor and lotto is my only chance at ever having a normal life. I live off of dent discount canned food and rice.

I wouldn't hire private chefs or fly beef in from Japan, but since I eat canned mush over cheapest starch anything that looks like a normal plate would be a big change for me.

Yes I would - moderate change.

All this because I want to live to be 95 and healthy

I love cooking and I always cook my food from scratch.

I would love to grow my own vegetables and have some livestock and poultry.

Sometimes I make unhealthy, quick fixes, but now with all the extra time at my disposal, I would be more intentional with my ingredients.

Once a month I would do a Michelin Star restaurant.

I would not hire a chef because I would aim for a low key life.

Got to go with Maine lobster, hard shell not the soft shell, perhaps 3-4 times a year. Might as well have it flown in to the nearest airport. Had it while in Florida. Much better than the lobsters from that part of the world.(IMHO) Might as well add Filet Mignon on a regular basis too.

No staff though, hired help is always a weak security link.

I'm mostly not worried about risks as a result of winning the lottery, but $50 a week for fine chocolates being chump change could have a downside. Maybe I'd be more likely to pay $5 for a package of Thomas' English muffins at our usual grocery store, but no matter how much money I had I think they'd still seem wildly overpriced. Other than that I don't imagine my eating habits would change much. I'll often buy the cheaper version of some things, but only if it's good. The extra $2 for real Oreo... [ More ]

Brock Lee..........Good question! No change for me! Mostly 'hand food', sandwiches, hot dogs No Ketchup, and pizza. My uncles on the Italian side always said pizza is the ideal food because you get all four food groups on each slice!

Well, I might hire extra help, snow removal would be a big one, I'm picky about who fixes my food, I never eat fast food and rarely go to restaurants, I do like Chic fil A ,yum.

I would get my husband a membership at a Golf club, and I would get some more dogs, hehehehehe.

a friend and i were talking about whether or not either of us would hire a personal chef if we won the lottery. she said yes because cooking for her family is her biggest and least favorite chore. i said no because i'm stuck in my ways and prefer my usual meals.
