Ban on Wearing Election Clothing In some States

In the following states you cannot wear shirts, hats, or buttons that are for a particular candidate.  The states are Maryland, Montana, Vermont, Kansas, and jumping on the band wagon is Virginia.  This is from the associated press as of today.  Rather than risk not being allowed to vote your choice, just wear regular clothing.  Now AFTER you vote, that is something different.

A little bit from the associated Press

McCain proposed lowering the tax rate on Individual Retirement Accounts and 401(k) plans to the lowest rate, 10 percent, on the first $50,000 withdrawn. The McCain campaign estimated it would affect 9 million people over the age of 60, but the biggest benefit would go to the highest income seniors.

"Sen. McCain also shows how little he understands the economy by offering lower capital gains rates in a year in which people don't have an awful lot of capital gains," Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton responded. "His trickle-down, ideological recipes won't strengthen our economy and grow our middle-class." Burton added that the McCain plan provides "no tax relief at all to 101 million hardworking families, including 97 percent of senior citizens, and it does nothing to cut taxes for small businesses or give them access to credit."

Obama's economic plan announced Monday called for suspending the tax on unemployment benefits as well as extending benefits. The Democrat also for a 90-day moratorium on home foreclosures at some banks, a two-year tax break for businesses that create new jobs and for allowing people to withdraw up to $10,000 from their retirement accounts without any penalty this year and next. McCain called the withdrawal provision "an invitation to capital flight."

This is the SAME kind of economics that George Bush has pandered for the past 8 years.  Trickle down economics does NOT work.  It was a carry over from the Reagan Days.  Reagan figured that when the wealthy made their money first, some of it would trickle down to the bottom..Tain't So.

Grassroots group at center of US voter registration uproar

WASHINGTON (AFP) — A grassroots organization that grew out of 1960s radicalism was Friday at the heart of a political firestorm over alleged voter registration fraud in the run-up to the US presidential election.

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now -- better known by its acronym ACORN -- boasts gathering the names of 1.3 million mostly non-white, low-income voters in 21 states in the most successful voter registration drive in US history.

But its achievement is challenged by conservative opponents of Democratic front-runner Barack Obama, after allegations of voter registration fraud emerged in at least six to eight states where the November 4 vote is liable to be close.

Though it claims to be non-partisan, ACORN endorsed Obama's candidacy in February.

Republican rival John McCain's campaign jumped into the fray Friday, suggesting in a new video that Obama trained ACORN activists, and alleging that ACORN had engaged in "bullying banks" into making risky loans to poor households.

"Obama's ties to ACORN run long and deep," the video alleged, in a broadside reminiscent of McCain's efforts to make Obama's relationship with 1960s radical William Ayers a campaign issue. The video also accused ACORN of "massive voter fraud."

On Friday, the Florida state attorney's office in Brevard County -- home to Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy Space Center -- confirmed it was looking into "under 30 registrations" that might be bogus.

"We have received a complaint from the supervisor of elections," spokeswoman Lynne Harper told AFP by telephone. "We are in the active process of reviewing it ... You could call it an investigation."

News of that probe follows a raid on ACORN's offices Tuesday in the western state of Nevada over allegations that nearly 300 suspected bogus voter registration cards had been submitted to electoral officials.

Some of those cares reportedly featured the names of the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys, an American football team in far-off Texas.

In Pennsylvania, meanwhile, a 37-year-old man employed by ACORN as a canvasser was arrested last weekend on suspicion of turning in fraudulent cards. In no state so far have charges been laid.

ACORN -- founded in 1970 when social justice was a rallying cry for US liberals, and when Obama was just nine years old -- denies wrongdoing.

It asserted Friday that any irregularities were likely the result of a handful of over-zealous canvassers who had slipped through its "quality control" procedures.

"At the end of the day, we'll be talking about a few thousand registrations," said Mike Slater, executive director of ACORN's voter registration affiliate Project Vote, in a telephone conference call with journalists.

On its website, New Orleans-based ACORN bills itself as "the nation's largest grassroots community organization" with more than 400,000 low- and middle-income families organized into more than 1,200 neighborhood chapters in 42 states.

Unlike other Western democracies, where government agencies compile voting lists, the onus in many parts in the United States is on individual voters to register to vote.

Election-year charges of registration and voter fraud are par for the course in the United States, most famously in 2000 when a furor over dodgy ballots saw the tight race between George W. Bush and Al Gore going all the way to the Supreme Court.

If they make mistakes, so be it. At least they are trying to get people registered.  If they help 1 million voters register and make some errors it should be expected.  A task that large will have errors.  As long as no purposeful gile is found, the errors should just be considered as errors..nothing more.  The Republicans are going to use voter suppression so maybe they will cancel each other out. It is amazing how close we are to the actual election and people are finding out that their names are not on a voting list when they have been voting for years and still live in the same place. If this suppression, I don't like it. Can you imagine if it is based on your credit score? I am going to make sure mine is there.

Word Of Warning About This Election

If you are a Democrat, make sure you take a picture ID to the polls with you in case you are challenged.  If you don't drive or have a passport, get a state Identifion card.  It seems as if this election is going to be very rough.  It was also reported on the BBC that the Republicans are going to challenge everyone whose home has been fore closed upon.  There is some law that they are going to try to use to eliminate or make ineffective  a certain group of voters and if you don't know who they are..just guess. I have more but now this is just so shocking to me.  I know you would never see this news on an local American TV station.  There have been also several broadcasts about racism and how some of the campaigns are being run.  I read in the local paper yesterday (of course it was buried) about racist literature being passed out at a Republican rally in Clearwater, Florida.  This is supposed to be America, home of the brave and land of the free.  Right now, who knows what it is?

How Low will It GO?

The stock market is making mice out of men.  I wonder how low will it go and will it correct itself?  they got our 800 billion and nothing is right yet.  I wonder what else will happen?  For one thing, President Bush should have kept his damn mouth shut.  Just by him saying that it would take a long time..people reacted to that.

Governor Palin and Her Pregnant Daughter

Well, now we find out her 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant.  I have a glimpse of her parenting skills.  Not very good.  If she can't control or at least convince her daughter not to engage in sex before a reasonable age, how can she possibly be the one to run the country if something were to happen to McCain?  We expect for our leaders and their children to act and behave responsibly.  What do you call this?  Where in the world is Mr. Palin? Or is she a single mom?

Prayers for New Orleans and Surrounding Areas

I am going to pray for these people.  It has been three years and once again, they are in the path of a major hurricane.  I was surprised to learn that it had already surpassed category three and may hit category five by late Sunday or Monday.  I am also praying for my family who live in the central part of Florida, right on the edge next to Tampa.  Once that hurricane hits the very warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, it can do anything.

He may not be the doddering old fool we think he is.  For my part, he must be a helluva poker player!! He just raised!! This is most interesting political situation I have ever seen in my life and I am enjoying every minute of it.

Bank Fees

It is not saying that person should not pay for an overdraft.  The fee for an overdraft was 25 or 35 dollars per item.  What I was saying is that the banks should not be able to charge you 25 or 35 dollars per day for the SAME overdraft.  Let's say you have 1 overdraft of 25.00 that you made on Sunday.  You don't get paid until the following Friday.  In the mean time on your 25.00 overdraft, you are charged 25.00 per day..not just 25.00. That to me is stealing and I don't care how you cut it.  It is ripping off the people who can least afford it.

Bank Fees

Remember we were talking about bank fees for overdrafts?  The federal reserve had asked the people to comment on the fees that they pay banks for overdrafts.  This story is in Today's USATODAY paper.  The story says that since 2001, bank fees for overdrafts have gone up a whopping 50% (45.6 BILLION) and that many banks are charging folks BEFORE the transaction is even posted.  Bank of America is one of those banks that started doing this earlier this year.  The Feds are proposing a rule that would give customers the right to DEMAND that banks deny transactions that overdraw their accounts.  Also the way banks process transactions from high to low is what often triggers the overdrafts instead of processing them in the order that they come into the bank.  The consumers have filed many complaints with the FED so that is why they are taking a look.  The fed website is federalreserve.gov.  click on consumer information and regulation AA under the "proposed Rules For Credit Cards and Overdraft Services."

I hope that something good comes out of this for the people.  I personally think the banks are making money on these overdrafts.  45.1 BILLION..that is a whole lot of somebody's money.

You guys should read some of those comments from the 50,000 people who responded to the fed.
