HCR 6: NH solution to train wreck?
The New Hampshire state lagislature has introduced a bill, HCR 6, asserting its state's rights. Basically it says the state will not recognize the federal government in matters where the federal government does not have specific authority or power as provided by the Constitution. This looks like an excellent approach to stopping the runaway federal government. If all states followed suit we'd regain control of our government immediately. This is as swe...

The China Syndrome
There is a media story coming from our great neighbor to north about a nuclear safety head honcho being fired because she refused to let a reactor be fired up after maintenance because all safety guidelines were not met. So, the government convenes and makes legislation to make it happen anyway (an offline reactor is a big money deal, anywhere in the world), while simultaneously watchdogs get hearings scheduled to see what the heck is going on. Apparently...

internet gambling may have future in america with democrats in power
Close to the worst thing that could have happened to the internet gambling community occurred with the deceitful passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. The bill was signed into law by President Bush on October 13 and several big name UK companies instantly lost the majority of their income. The democratic take over of the House and Senate may be the best thing that could have happened to the internet gambling community since the UIGEA passed. Especially conside...

a lot at stake in september
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa Sen. Bill Frist, R-Tenn., said he will support legislation to ban Internet gambling when Congress reconvenes. The Senate majority leader said most people don't know that online gambling is illegal. Which makes it our responsibility to act, Frist said Thursday at a hearing at Coe College. The House approved a bill in July that would ban the use of credit cards, checks or electronic fund transfers to pay online gambling debts. People attendin...

a terrible bet
Bad legislation may be especially common during an election year, but the Internet Gambling Prohibition and Enforcement Act passed 317-93 last month by the House is in a class by itself. The bill is simultaneously impractical, hypocritical and just plain confused. The measure would clarify the 1961 Federal Wire Act by banning the use of credit or debit cards to set up accounts with online...
