Jack Whitaker, worse than you thought.
I don't know if anyone has posted this article yet. The article mentions Jack Whitaker and the run of bad locuk befalling lottery winners. I just thought this particular statistic, of which I'm skeptical, was amazing: A study three years ago found that one third of lottery winners eventually went bankrupt. One third! I know we all like to believe we would not be one of them that we would handle it better. I buy a ticket on occasion and like to think that if I won, I'd quit my job and live

Millionares!
update:Since my last post...yes, this evening, I just read an article in the local newspaper that someone from the area close to where I live recently drove to Madison to claim a $100,000 Powerball Win. The article stated that after taxes the person will collect about $67,000. This amount seems quite high. I suspect that more taxes will be owed later. We live in a rural area. This is the first I've heard about this news story. The winning ticket, was purchased at a local gas/convience store that

If WINFALL is popular...
Today's (2/5) NY Daily News has an article comparing WINFALL to the lousy-paying NY Lotto 6/59.

Final 2017 MM and/or PB jackpot?
The site doesn't list that info yet. I can't post links but you can see one article at the Chicago Tribune called: One winning ticket sold for Mega Millions jackpot totaling $450 million The article says: The winning Mega Millions lottery numbers drawn Friday night are 28, 30, 39, 59 and 70, with a Mega Ball of 10 and a Megaplier of 3. The was one jackpot winner, according to the Mega Millions website. It did not list the state where the winning ticket was sold.

MADDOG'S Powerball Challenges (Discussion)
RJOh, You're correct regarding Todd's comments on the Powerball article, but if you look back at the attacks I had to deal with when citing Wikipedia to explain The Gambler's Fallacy, I think you'll find a different story. Although I don't fully agree with Todd's critique of the PB article, he cited a specific passage and what he didn't like about it. Those who have a strong psychological need to believe in the fallacy blindly mounted emotional attacks on Wikipedia itself without attempting t

How are payments invested?
heres an article i read a little while ago, the biggest buy back of bonds etc in history. seems the states didnt want to lose out with this credit crisis, and forced banks to buy back the now worthless bonds. billions worth, i was wondering if the lotto annuities are part of that deal. gee having the gov on your side looking after you sure makes the annuity a safer option. http://www.finfacts.com/irishfinancenews/article_1014412.shtml ps thats kinda got a different spin to

If it rolls
I just saw the news article linked below, and it says that according to the Michigan Lottery Commissioner, who heads the MM group, the estimated annuity jackpot will be estimated tomorrow as $470 million if there isn't a winner tonight. The article completely screwed up the info on the lump sum and taxes for the current jackpot, so it may also have comletely screwed up what the commissioner really said, but with a jump of 95 to 100 million for this roll it's a safe bet that the 470 figure is

picking OhioSuperLotto+ numbers 07/10
One of the hardest things to avoid, is to not allow drawing results influence your set strategy, I know, I've kicked myself many times for this and never learned my lession. This makes me think of something I wrote sometime ago about Hunters and Trappers. Hunters are always chasing the numbers while Trappers build a trap and wait for the numbers and conditions to come to them. The thing is that when it comes to lottery drawings, you know that you're not going to win everytime you play. But, if yo

I'm thinking of starting a lottery pool
I don't think Facebook would allow it. As I pointed out earlier the people HAVE to hand you the money and you can not send ANYTHING through the U.S. Mail system. Here is the United States Code: 39 USC 3005 (a) Upon evidence satisfactory to the Postal Service that any person is engaged in conducting a scheme or device for obtaining money or property through the mail by means of false representations, including the mailing of matter which is nonmailable under (!1) 3001(d), (h), (i),
