Cash, Why is it that you are so against the annuity? I am trying to see what I am overlooking, because they don't look that bad. It seems that the annuity looks more attractive in a lower interest rate environment. They are almost even at 5% and at 4% the annuity has cash beat handily over 30yrs. Cash does skyrocket over 5%. I was checking the FAQ at the Powerball site and to me, the annuity makes the best sense. It forces you to stick to a budget. The kids and relatives will be aware that there is an annual limit of funds. The annuity can be willed on after you die. The annuity can be cashed out at anytime. For starters, ignore anybody who offers a cookie cutter approach, whether it's to always take the cash, always take the annuity, take cash up to some amount and annuity over that, or anything else. There is a discussion in the MM thread about taking the annuity vs cash value. I thought taking the cash value is 100% the right decision. Long term investments will almost always beat the return of a annuity right?

Anyone have a reasonable explanation for some of these wacky increases with the jackpot annuity vs cash value ? The cash value is right at 60%+/- of the Annuity Value on the average. On this last draw, how does the annuity value go up $470,000 and the cash value only go up $130,000 ??? That is not even 28%. Go back earlier in this thread and look on page #6.
