Something stinks with Powerball
From the Powerball website:
WHY HAS THE CASH JACKPOT GONE DOWN?
Actually, it is the annuity jackpot that has gone UP. Most people assume that we start with the annuity, but we really start with the cash jackpot. In the Powerball game, thirty cents of every dollar sold goes into the cash jackpot pool. The difference between the cash jackpot and the annuity jackpot depends on how much we can make in interest earnings. The more interest that we can make, the higher the annuity jackpot -

5m bump in Mega Millions?

one ticket annuity 365 gives 177 mill cash. Sorry but most folks need to see that MegaMillions gives out far more cash fund then PB. Someday ppl will do the math and see which game is more giving. It was pleasing to see the Mega increase! Thank you PB for at least doing that for the real lottery game!
The MUSL justifies its back loaded annuity on its FAQ page:

Powerball $160 million Wed 12/18
never let a lottery assign you THEIR annuity. if you have fears about handling money, take the LUMP SUM then shop around for your own annuity. once you are assigned an annuity from a lottery, you are stuck with it for it's duration. unless you sell it for pennies on the dollar to a lottery/annuity purchasing firm. you lose control over YOUR money with the annuity option. the object of the game is control. if you structure your own annuity and you need some more liquidity , you have the option o

Next "Huge" jackpot??
This is the correct information from what I read off of the Powerball website. The current Powerball record is $365 million annuity set in 2006. Therefore you can only increase the next record run by an increment of $25 million annuity as stated in the match 5 bonus prize pool rules. So the next jackpot would be $390 million annuity and if that jackpot is not won it will only increase to $415 million annuity. The rest would go into a match 5 bonus prize pool to be distributed to the 5+0 winn

Is your state a powerball or a megamillions state
Mega Millions's cash option isn't a higher percentage of the annuity amount than Powerball simply because . The problem people are having when it comes to comparing Powerball's cash option to Mega Millions's cash option, is that they look are looking at the annuity amount first. See, the cash amount is not determined from the annuity amount. It's the other way around. They determine the annuity amount from the cash amount. See, Powerball allows a higher annuity amount with less cash.

Next "Huge" jackpot??
$365 million annuity is the last record capped Powerball jackpot. So the next time Powerball goes on a record run the cap will not go into effect until it reaches $390 million annuity. If that jackpot rolls then the next drawing will only go to $415 million annuity with the rest going to the match 5 bonus prize pool. If the jackpot is hit at $390 million annuity though the next record run would not be capped until $415 million annuity.-weshar75

Canada/annuity jackpots
One of the biggest differences between Canadian and US lotteries is that Canadian jackpot games have always been annuity-free (jackpots automatically are paid in lump sum.) Canadian lotteries are trying annuity games on a very limited basis. Do you eventually see Canadian jackpot games switching to annuity-based jackpots (I'm sure cash option would be available).

MegaMillions Annuity Payout Schedule
Does anyone know the annuity payout schedule for MegaMillions? For example, if the JP is $26 million, does the annuity pay $1 million gross for 26 years, or is it a graduated scale (e.g., 2.5% of the JP the first year and increasing to 5.1% in the 26th year)? The USA Mega site seems to indicate that MegaMillions pays the same amount for 26 years. CA SuperLotto Plus pays the annuity on the graduated scale.I am a lump sum player myself, but I am just curious about this.
