Powerball is too stingy with their multiplier. If you want to play the multiplier, I'd go with Mega Millions. Thanks for posting those multiplier stats.

The multiplier options only make sense if you actually win something. Since MM and PB are lose a lot lotteries, I don't play the multiplier option most of the time. The most it paid off for me was an extra $10 in MM. Of course, it was x2, the lowest multiplier.

It appears the Multiplier option is better for Mega Millions than the other multistate lotteries: Powerball Lotto America. Below we can see Mega Millions has a better payout for x4 than the other lotteries.

You're surely welcome, CDanaT! ;) For the sake of full disclosure I must say that I rarely have to purchase a ticket with a jackpot below $100M, since I go with the richer of the 2 bigguns', if I may... I will continue to play powerball and mega millions because I only play one line with the multiplier hoping for the million prize. It's strange that the powerball.com site and some state lottery websites still show the old Powerplay fixed multiplier prize values as of today, 1/21/14. I would think this info should have been changed on 1/19/14 after the last fixed multiplier draw on 1/18/14. I assume this is just bad housekeeping (and false advertising...) and the first Powerplay variable multiplier draw is still a go for tomorrow 1/22/14?
