TV advertising is expensive, so I figure that's good news! Everytime I pass a billboard or see an ad on TV for the lottery, they're spending another several thousand that could have been put to better use, like paying for after school programs. I realize each state must have an advertising budget, but I've been over someone's house when an ad comes on for the lottery and not once has that person said Oh, I should run out and buy a ticket. I understand that Mass. has a very low advertising budget, if at all. The NY Lottery is very aggressive about advertising; however, I don't buy tickets on impulse.

Perhaps advertising has something to do with it. I can't tell you the last time I saw an ad for Lotto; however, you can count on ads for PB and MM when their jackpots start getting into exciting territory. Also, I've seen a resurgence in the little bit of luck Take 5 campaign. And around here (Albany), we have highway billboards with the PB and MM jackpots, but I don't believe we have one for Lotto. I doubt they are actually the same. The lottery rounds up numbers when advertising the amounts.
