Kansas man claims $50M Mega Millions jackpot on ticket he purchased in Missouri
If the two states have a reciprocal agreement then you will typically pay just your home state tax rate and owe nothing to the state you purchased in. Reciprocity agreements are usually about earned income, and somewhat based on the idea that everything balances out because each state gets to fully tax the out-of-state income of their residents in exchange for not taxing the income of the non-residents. As unearned income I'd expect lottery winnings to be taxable in the state in which they'

$550 MILLION: Mega Millions holiday bonanza!
Good advice to enter into an agreement BEFORE the drawing if you want to give shares of your win to family and friends. You have to be able to prove to the IRS that there was an agreement in place BEFORE the drawing to split any winnings. The have been multiple court cases where the IRS sued the winner for gift tax, and in some cases won, because the person could not prove conclusively that there was an agreement to share before the drawing. If you gve shares after the drawing that it considered

Lottery Pool, should I do quick pick?
If you've got a written agreement that anticipates any problems it's not a big deal whether you play QP or choose your own numbers. I'd generally suggest the same set of numbers every time, because the pool agreement can list the numbers, making it extremely clear which tickets belong to the pool, If you always buy a month's worth of tickets that's almost as good, assuming the buyer doesn't also buy personal tickets for an entire month. Either way, your agreement should cover who buys the ticket

Piqua lottery winners sued by co-workers
Let's consider that you were actually hit by a sober nun who honestly believes she wasn't on thee sidewalk, then. Plenty of lawsuits (and criminal cases) are essentially he said she said cases. In the Piqua case, the plaintiffs are claiming an agreement that all would share. Such an agreement strikes me as foolish if people chose whether or not to participate on a draw by draw basis, but we have no way of knowing what the agreements really were. Perhaps there was such an agreement, based on t

Online lotteries in Brazil
Quote: Originally posted by Todd on July 10, 2004Thanks for the link.BobP is right: that is not an official government lottery, it is a private Internet lottery.Almost without exception, I advise people to stay away from those, because they are accountable to no one other than their personal bank accounts. In other words, if you think government lotteries have the potential for corruption, that potential for corruption would be ten-fold for private lotteries. Now, I believe your original questio

Office Pool Lotto Questions
There are good reasons to avoid pools, but fear of a lawsuit isn't one of them. If you do get sued, congratulations. You'll almost certainly never be sued unless you win a sizable amount. That means you're a winner. Other than never winning, you can't do anything to guarantee that you won't be sued, but you can make it unlikely and you can make it a virtual certainty that you won't lose. There are really only two issues to be concerned about. One is who is a member of the pool, and the other is

Jury: Lottery winner must pay ex-boyfriend part of winnings
you would need to then get everyone to sign an agreement to dissolve the agreement! or date the agreement, for 1 calendar month. and continuously resign it. I guess thats where office pools go wrong. they need to actually be a contract for one draw only. and any winnings from that draw are only to be spent on tickets with claims to that original contractees, the following draw a new contract, just for that draw needs to be filed and the previous winnings plays no part in the following contract.
