The Idiot Tax
I've heard the lottery called the idiot tax, because it's when we give government our money and get nothing (services, etc) in return.
But the BIGGEST idiot tax has to be when you play the Power Ball and there is 1 Billion at stake, and at the end of the 30 years you get only 2/3 of that. If you get the cash payout, for my state it's about 290 Million. OUCH!
Will I complain if I win.
No.
But it just sucks seeing all the potential leave and go away to some faceless bean count

Virginia Lottery retailers escalate boycott, halt ALL lottery ticket sales until further notice
Virginians could have a tougher time buying lottery tickets
By Kate Northrop
Nearly a month after hundreds of Virginia Lottery retailers participated in a temporary boycott of ticket sales to protest the ban of skill games, many of those stores are now refusing to sell tickets altogether.
In protest of a recent amendment made to a bill that regulates the operation of skill games in the state, licensed Virginia Lottery retailers have taken last month's ticket sale boycott a step furth

Alabama Lottery bill falls short by one vote
Alabama lawmakers sick of indecision following years of debate
By Kate Northrop
A bill to authorize a state lottery and casinos in Alabama failed by just one vote, the closest the state has ever come to enacting a state lottery since 1999.
One vote made the difference in the Alabama legislative session, resulting in voters just barely missing out on seeing a lottery question on the ballot this year.
The last time Alabama residents saw a lottery proposal in the voting booth was in
