Hmm, that is a little peculiar. I must have made an error in my back-of-the-napkin stats workup, because I have an even-odds expectation of 11 days which is much shorter than your 15 days. Reality doesn't lie, I must have made (another) bonehead math error somewhere. I have to go, but I'll try to remember to take another look at this when I get home, because my calculated expectation is off by too much. Meanwhile, here's my $500 question. Do series numbers cluster?

Not BS. People who do not play regularly, seem to do this more often than not. I have had well educated coworkers tell me they did not check their tickets when they heard it was won someplace else. I did explain the other prizes. And let's be honest, the odds are against winning. If they are investing in their 401ks and taking care of their family, that is #1.

in a way, that's right, the odds may indeed be deceptive. It matters a great deal the precision of how the question is specified. Does it mean at least 20 losses in a row or exactly 20 losses in a row (out of 240 games)? If the latter, does the streak happen only once, with no other streaks of 20 losses (i.e. any other streaks are 19 losses or less) or can there possibly be multiple streaks of 20 losses in a row, but at most 20 in a row ? Considering the odds are even higher for mega millions than they are for Powerball I don't understand either why mega millions doesn't hold the jackpot record. The only thing I can think of is that Powerball has a greater name recognition than mega millions and that casual last minute lotto fever frenzy types mistakenly ask the clerk for a Powerball ticket when they mean mega millions .

It seems Mega can't never get close to the Powerball record. I'm actually waiting to see if we will ever beat the 2 Billion record. I feel this pot going to climb into the top 3 but I don't think it will beat Edwin Castro jackpot. It will reach a billion by Saturday for sure.
