Stores OK with releasing Iowa Lottery TouchPlay data
Iowa convenience store operators, whose sales information has been made public for years by the Iowa Lottery, say they won't try to block the release of financial information requested by The Des Moines Register about TouchPlay machines.
We don't have a dog in the fight. We don't care, the president of the trade group that represents convenience stores said Thursday. It's always been public. All lottery sales are public information by location.

Iowa Lottery investigation highlights difficult balance between security and profits
For more than a year while he worked at the Brick Street Market in Bondurant, Iowa, Matthew Hinrichs quietly stole lottery tickets, cashing in at least $28,000 in illegitimate prize money, prosecutors say.
When he was finally caught in 2016, Hinrichs pleaded guilty to two felony counts of fraud and was ordered to pay back those winnings, plus nearly $5,000 more.
Lottery officials say their layers of security allowed them to track Hinrichs' activity, providing data that was invaluable to pr

Lotto lout Michael Carroll today lifts the lid on his new life as a 6-an-hour shortbread packer in a biscuit factory in the Highlands.

The local TV star who rigged the lottery
Shortly after 7pm on April 24th, 1980, millions of Pennsylvanians watched intently as a third and final ping-pong ball shot up the tube of a machine on live television.
And there you have it, exclaimed the station's beloved announcer, Nick Perry. Today's Pennsylvania lottery daily number: 6-6-6!
As the cheesy music faded and the lights dimmed, Perry implored lucky ticket holders at home to claim their prizes: If you've got it, come and get it!
What the public didn't know was that Per

Crime story: A recounting of the biggest lottery scandal in history
The file landed on Rob Sand's desk with something less than a thud. Despite holding the contents of an investigation still open after more than two years, the file was barely half an inch thick. Happy birthday, his boss said.
It was not Rob Sand's birthday. His boss, an Iowa deputy attorney general named Thomas H. Miller, was retiring in July 2014 after nearly three decades of prosecuting everything from murder to fraud. H

Ohio Lottery investigating frequent winners
The top lottery winners in Ohio have claimed hundreds of large prizes over the past decades, some in such short spans of time that it seemingly defies the odds and has prompted investigations by the Ohio Lottery.
State lottery investigators track multiple-winners to look for retailers who are either stealing prizes for themselves or store employees turning in tickets for others wanting to avoid paying off debts.
A local newspaper examined every prize claim of $600 or more going back to the

For everyone's edification on the limits of copywright:
I am reposting an important message regarding why copwright laws cannot protect ostensibly 'Golden Fleece' systems, Holy Grails, etc. This is rather long but highly informative and significant for those interested in the realities of copywrites, but fair warning, the length of this talesman treatise may cause pain to some unacustomed readers lips LOL
