Lottery vending machines considered in Kansas
Kansas lawmakers are mulling over the possibility of legalizing lottery vending machines as a means to fund the state's struggling mental health system. Such machines are used in 37 other lottery states.
The idea, floated by Rep. Chuck Weber, R-Wichita, is expected to increase funding to mental health services by $12 million over two years. Kansas has been under extreme budget stress the past few years as it looks for new ways to fund state programs. The recession and budget cuts resulted in

CT Lottery ignored warnings that game was vulnerable to fraud, investigation finds
Connecticut Lottery officials knew in January of 2015 that there was a way for retailers to illegally access the numbers of the 5 Card Cash game on their computer screens and manipulate tickets but waited 10 months to notify the Department of Consumer Protection that fraud was occurring.
At a legislative hearing Tuesday morning Connecticut Lottery Corp.'s chairman and acting president, Frank Farricker, acknowledged that lottery officials put revenues over security issues concerning the game,

Vermont paying $8,000 per month on unused lottery machines
Since last June, 25 lottery machines leased by the state of Vermont have gathered cobwebs in storage unplugged and unused at a cost of $8,000 a month.
That means the state has paid $72,000 in fees for nothing. And the tab is still mounting. Neither the governor nor legislators were happy to hear about the losing proposition.
I don't like that we're wasting money and having these machines sit idly, Gov. Phil Scott said Tuesday. His staff learned about the situation in February while workin

New Mexico's gas pump lottery sales face legal hurdle
The Play at the Pump pilot program is facing a legal test regarding how New Mexico customers purchase their Powerball and Mega Millions lottery tickets.
As Lottery Post reported last week, consumers can now purchase New Mexico lottery tickets at some gas pumps without having to enter a store. However, the New Mexico House and Ways Committee subsequently objected that state law allows for the purchase of lottery tickets by only cash and checks, not debit cards as used at the pump, and attempts

Investigators uncover more than 20 retailers suspected of cheating
State authorities continue to investigate the rigging of a Connecticut Lottery game they say increased the number of winning tickets and the payout to retailers.

Rahul Gandhi and Prakunj Patel, both of 37 Jobs Road, Wallingford, were arrested in March by the state Dep

The Iowa House kicked off the seventh week of the 2016 session by approving a bill to make buying lottery tickets easier.

How a group of MIT students gamed the Massachusetts Lottery
Even within a university as famously offbeat as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Random Hall has a reputation for being a little quirky. According to campus legend, the students who first lived there in 1968 wanted to call the dorm Random House until the publishing house with that same name sent them a letter to object. The individual floors have names, too. One is called Destiny, a result of its cash-strapped inhabitants selling the naming rights on eBay; the winning bid was $36 from
