I might shock the lottery lawyers shoes off if I get to show him a winning PB ticket given the way I play PB.

Because I'm really playing for second place win, I buy five almost identical lines (all five white balls are the same on each line), but I pick five different PowerBall numbers. I buy the PowerPlay option too.

I played PB and MM that way but when MM went to $5, I stopped playing MM regularly and only play sometimes if the mood hits me. I haven't figured out a system for it yet that won't be too expensive.

At most I only play once a week with one ticket and many weeks I don't play MM at all. I did decide to play tonight and have 1 ticket with a 3X multiplier. Who knows, it might be the one.

That is the way I like to do it too, for both PB MM except I save the cost of the tickets and then later make larger PB purchases per draw from the money saved from multiple draws instead of buying tickets for every draw of lower amounts.

The problem with MM is that it grows so slowly until it finally takes off with a really huge jackpot that I wound up saving a lot more per draw for more draws than I really wanted to until it was won and then dropped back to the $5 saving amount. So, I have... [ More ]

It doesn't matter what numbers you pick. All 1000 combinations have the same probability of winning -- 1 in 1000.

In order for your list to be better than some other list, the probability distribution of the drawing would have to be something other than uniformly distributed (weighted balls or a biased RNG).

It doesn't matter what lotterology is. There is no system that can predict randomly drawn numbers in future drawings. You would need a time machine.

The standard deviation is the square root of the variance. The variance in the number of hits from a list for pick 3 is not terribly difficult to calculate. I did the calculation and shared my results in that thread. The method of selection for what numbers to put on a list is irrelevant.

Texas does appear to be easier not to mention cheaper than Florida to claim anonymously.

In Florida a player could utilize statue 1024.51 to claim anonymously and fore go using an attorney. That said, after 90 days the Florida Lottery would release the name of the winner to anyone that asks them. The Florida Lottery thinks 90 days is enough time for a winner to get a head start on doing a disappearing act. I dunno, I guess that all depends on the winners personal situation.

No it's not. I'm looking at a current Florida PB bet/play slip and the highest number in the advance drawings check boxes is 39. It looks like this == 2 3 4 5 6 8 10 15 20 25 30 35 39. I suppose it's possible for a player to tell the clerk they want to play 13 advance draws, and the clerk could possibly manually enter that amount of drawings in the terminal. I'm sure that lots of players will spend $390 on PB tickets, but I doubt that many would spend it all at once. There are 13 weeks from 12/1 to the end of February, and 13 divides conveniently into 390 to play $30 per week. At the $2 cost that's 5 tickets for each of the 3 drawings, and I suspect that few players want to but 5 tickets for every drawing. Interestingly, the FL limit for advance play on PB is 52 drawings. Yesterday I saw something at a local supermarket's customer service counter that caught my eye.

It was a PowerBall ticket lying underneath a big sheet of clear plastic that was covering some scratch off tickets. Someone had placed a small piece of paper beside the ticket with handwritten words that said Please buy me along with an arrow pointing at the ticket.

So why don't you spend an extra $2 and buy a second ticket? The chances of hitting 5+0 are 1 in 12 million, but if you do the chances of hitting 5+1 with that second ticket is 1 in 25.

I know me, and I'd feel exactly as you would even though I play for entertainment. There are Hardrock casinos located near me, but I've never been. The only other form of gambling I do besides playing the lottery is in The Stock Market, which I've done for the last 45 years. I don't play the jackpot games very often but when I do, I get the power play every time, and I did the same with the mega plier when it was an option.

If I hit 5+0 without the PP I would be like, You mean I could have won 2 million dollars instead of 1 million but I didn't because I didn't want to spend the extra buck? What was I thinking

By the way...

When I took that $15 ticket that I won about $130 and cashed it in, the clerk took a long hard look at the ticket after he noticed that he had to pay me 130 bucks cash.

So before he said anything, I said to him - Yeah. That's a crazy ticket. It cost me 15 bucks for what amounts to be one line.

Then there's this too - When I play PB, I play three identical lines of five numbers. Each line on my ticket will have a different PB (Red Ball) number. I don't because I would have to spend an average of $12 million to win the extra $1 million. That's not a good deal. I'm perfectly happy winning only $1 million.

Most of the power play winnings go to the bottom two prizes. A 1 in 26 chance to win about eight dollars or so, big deal.
