Just When You Think You've Heard It All

Man Accused Of Having Sex With Neighbor's Pool Float

HAMILTON -- A man accused of having sex with a neighbor's pool toy has had trouble with the law before.  Edwin Tobergta, 32, was arrested Sunday after a man said he saw Tobergta with his pants down on the pink pool float.  Tobergta fled with the float when he was confronted, but was arrested at his home later in the morning.  Tobergta has been arrested several times previously for public indecency, including a 2002 incident where he was accused of stealing and having sex with a four-foot inflatable pumpkin.  Relatives told News 5 in 2008 that Tobergta has mental problems and was being helped by Butler County Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, but he was dropped because he had too many arrests.  The relatives said officials told them Tobergta could not get additional help unless he commits a felony crime.  According to a police report, Tobergta told officers that he did it, but was only doing it because has a problem and wants help.

Nick Ashford of Ashford and Simpson Dies @ age 70

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/music-news/8717641/Nick-Ashford-Motown-legend-dies-aged-70.html

Nick Ashford, Motown legend, dies aged 70

Nick Ashford, who co-wrote classics such as Ain't No Mountain High Enough, dies of throat cancer.

Nick Ashford, one-half of the legendary Motown songwriting duo Ashford & Simpson that penned elegant, soulful classics for Diana Ross and Marvin Gaye has died at the age of 70 from throat cancer.

Ashford and his wife Valerie Simpson wrote Motown classics Ain't No Mountain High Enough and Reach Out And Touch Somebody's Hand (recorded by Ross and You're All I Need To Get By (made famous by Gaye and Tammi Terrell) and they also wrote pop hits such as I'm Every Woman", which was a hit for Chaka Khan and, later, Whitney Houston.

They also had success writing for themselves: Perhaps the biggest known hit sung by them was the 1980s hit Solid As A Rock.

Ashford and Simpson's relationship stretched more than four decades. They met in 1964 in a New York City church; Ashford, a South Carolina native, had come to the city to pursue a dance career. Simpson was a music student, and after connecting with her, they decided to start to write songs together.   Their first major success occurred when they came up with Let's Go Get Stoned for Ray Charles. That song became a huge hit, and soon, they came to the attention of Motown Records and began penning hits for their artists. The started out writing for Gaye and Terrell; in fact, Ain't No Mountain High Enough was originally their hit, until Ross later rerecorded it and made it her signature song.   The duo, who were married for 38 years, helped sell millions of records for several artists. They also had success as their own entity, but despite "Solid As a Rock," their hits dwarfed those that they penned for others.   In recent years, the pair continued to perform. They also were owners of the New York City restaurant Sugar Bar, where many top names and emerging talents would put on showcases.   “They had magic, and that’s what creates those wonderful hits, that magic,” Verdine White of Earth, Wind and Fire said. “Without those songs, those artists wouldn’t have been able to go to the next level.”   Ashford's father, Calvin, was a construction worker. He got his musical start at Willow Run Baptist Church, singing and writing songs for the gospel choir. He briefly attended Eastern Michigan University, in Ypsilanti, before heading to New York, where he tried but failed to find success as a dancer.   In 1964, while homeless, Mr. Ashford went to White Rock Baptist Church in Harlem, where he met Simpson, a 17-year-old recent high school graduate who was studying music. They began writing songs together, selling the first bunch for $64.   Among the artists who had hits with their songs were Gladys Knight and the Pips (Didn’t You Know You’d Have to Cry Sometime) and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (Who’s Gonna Take the Blame).   Recently, they received a songwriting credit on Amy Winehouse’s song Tears Dry on Their Own, which contains a sample from Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.   Ashford is survived by his wife and two daughters Nicole and Asia.

Change Your Mind Change Your Circumstance

Whatever the financial situation you are currently in, it is one that you have brought into reality through your thoughts. If it is not what you want, then you have created it unconsciously, but still you created it. When you can see this you will understand how powerful you are at creating. And now all you have to do is create what you want, consciously!

The Fastest Way To Receive Is To Give

The Fastest Way To Receive Is To Give

The fastest way to receive is to give, because giving starts the reciprocal action of receiving. We all receive according to how much we give. Give the best of you everywhere you go. Give a smile. Give thanks. Give kindness. Give love.   Your giving should be a giving without expectation of return - a giving for the sheer joy of it.

May the joy be with you,

Would You recognize a Miracle

"Supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, 'Sir, if you have carried Him away, tell me where you have laid Him, and I will take Him away.'" -John 20:15

Mary Magdalene went to Jesus' tomb overwhelmed with grief. Verse 11 goes so far as to tell us that "she stood by the tomb weeping." Grief was all that she could see. Even as Jesus approached her and said, "Woman, why are you weeping, Whom are you seeking?" Even then, Mary could not see her Lord standing right in front of her. In her grief, all she could see was someone her mind told her was the gardener. In her grief, she was unable to see the miracle standing right in front of her.

I've often asked the question, "Would you recognize a miracle if you were standing in the middle of it?" In this instance, Mary could not because her rational mind told her that her Lord was dead. Yet, Christ was and is very much alive and standing right in front of her!

How often do you face trials and your rational mind expects a negative result? Yet, when Christ is the Lord of your life, your expectations should be transformed. Hebrews 11:1 tells us that "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." Stretch your faith today and see the miracle in which you are standing.

      *                       *                      *

PRAYER:

Heavenly Father, I am standing in the middle of a miracle today! You are delivering me! Even though the waters appear to be towering over me today, I trust You and Your plan for my life. Help me to see past my grief and see Your tremendous love for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  *                       *                      *

I guarantee that Christ is working in your life. Are you willing to take off your grief blinders and see what He's up to? What hope glimmers deep in your heart, just waiting for Christ to reveal fully?

One lucky clan wins its third lottery?

Haul in the family: one lucky clan wins its third lottery

Wondering where all your good luck has gone? Maybe the McCauleys of Charlotte, N.C., have it. For the third time in 20 years, a member of the family has won the lottery.

A buzzy article from the AP delves into the details. Back in 1991, the family won $15.5 million from the New York Lotto. This was their biggest haul, but not their last. Sixteen years later, Amy McCauley held the ticket to $160,000 in the North Carolina Education Lottery. Then, in 2009, Amy picked up two more prizes, each worth $1,000.

And now, in 2011, Kimberly McCauley (daughter of Amy) won $100,000 on a scratcher card.

The McCauleys aren't the first family to win the lottery more than once. Take Ernest Pullen. He wasted no time in notching his second against-all-odds upset. After winning $1 million in June of 2010, Pullen claimed a $2 million prize in September. Perhaps true to his first name, Pullen remarked that he considers himself "a lucky guy."

While Pullen accomplished his multi-victory feat quickly, he was downright pokey compared with Angelo and Maria Gallina. The couple, who had played the lotto regularly for years, won $126,000 in a California lottery game. Then, hours later, they won a whopping $17 million playing the SuperLotto.

But even their good and fast fortune may pale in comparison with the woman who is often called the luckiest person in the world. Joan Ginther has won four jackpots since 1993, for a total of $20.4 million. Each time, she scored more than $1 million. According to an article from MSNBC, the Daily Telegraph reported that the odds of winning four lottery jackpots is more than 200 million to 1. We're just happy if we find an extra $5 in our pants pocket.

He Gives Strength To The Weak And Power To The Weak

He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

Isaiah 40:29 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Even the most pumped up and positive ones of us find ourselves broken and weary at some point in our life. It isn't so hard to believe and follow Jesus when we are soaring on the wings of eagles or running and not getting weary in our walk with God. Often the toughest time to keep our faith vibrant is when we are trying to keep putting one foot in front of the other while not fainting. In those moments of absolute powerlessness, weakness, and brokenness the Lord is often most real, most powerful, and most present.

My Prayer...

Thank you, God, for sustaining me and keeping my faith alive when I have been under attack from the Evil One and have grown weary with the challenges and hardships of life. Please give those I love, and mention now by name, ... the strength to press on even though they are weary and weak. Please be real in their lives and let them know that you are coming with grace to help and redeem as their Great Deliverer. In Jesus' name I ask it. Amen.

Wherever I Am

Wherever I Am

"...I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need." Philippians 4:11b-12

I'm a fan of old movies. My friend, thinks I'm a little nutty when I sit on the couch and watch old movies on TV...especially when I watch the same ones over, and over, and over again.

A couple of nights ago, however, I watched one that I'd never seen before - Man from Laramie, 1955 - a western with Jimmy Stewart. Fairly early in the movie, cowboy Jimmy has a conversation with a young woman who asks him why he's always on the move, not settled down, no home...not really "belonging" to anyone or anyplace. Jimmy's response was:

"Well, I always feel like I belong where I am."

I liked that statement. It resonated with me.

I can recall hundreds of times in my life, and you probably can too, when you had to go somewhere, or do something that you didn't want to do. And, I know that my choice of attitude in those situations made it possible for me to either enjoy myself anyway...or to make myself totally miserable.

If we adopt an attitude of "feeling like I belong where I am" - regardless of our situation, predicament or location - knowing that Christ is our constant companion, what greater joy can we know? And, there is no more powerful witness of Christ to others than those who see us depend on, and positively embrace, Jesus Christ regardless of our circumstance.

                                       *                       *                      *

PRAYER:

Lord, my heart longs to be content in Your hands, in all that I may face. Fill me, Lord, with the desire to seek Your contented Presence whenever and wherever I am. Amen.

Can you recall a time when you had to do something you hated doing? Did you decide to enjoy yourself anyway, and grow from the experience? Or, did you maintain your negative feelings? What situation are you facing today that may be handled better if you're able to adjust your attitude positively?

When You Ask For Others

When You Ask For Others
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What is the most powerful thing you can add to the process of creating what you want? Ask for others as you ask for yourself. An easy way to do this is to ask for ALL, which of course includes you. Ask for a good life for all, peace for all, abundance for all, health for all, love for all, and happiness for all.
When you ask for others, it comes back to you, so the law has it ALL covered.
The things that come most quickly into your life are the things that you BELIEVE in the most. You can only bring to you what you BELIEVE, so you must BELIEVE to receive what you want.
May the joy be with you,
If You Don't Do It...Who Will?
Prayer:
Lord, I want to stand for something in my lifetime. Not just anything. Something good, something noble...something significant for YOU. Rise up within me an attitude that wants to hear and follow Your voice. Amen.
                                                                   * * *
Every day we face times and people that force us to compromise our opinions or our actions in certain situations. Most of the time these situations, and our flexibilities, mold us into better persons. Sometimes, however, we have to “take a stand.” What principles, foundational to you, would you never be willing to yield?
Peace of Mind - Part I
Devotions
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peace of Mind - Part I
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?”
-Matthew 6:25
One effective principle that leads to peace of mind is to learn to live by the calendar, not by the clock. An enormous amount of inner agitation, emotional disturbance, and turbulent thoughts, along with the disruption of poise and peace, comes when we make mountains out of molehills.
 Look at a calendar. If you try to think of the year as 365 days, it becomes unmanageable. However, when you think of the year as twelve months, already time falls into order. And, something else will happen to you - you will start to look at the larger picture.
 A great lecturer and writer, Emily Kimbrough, shares about a lesson she once learned. As a ten-year-old girl, she was readying herself to go on stage for a school performance when she became very upset because her hair didn’t look right. She got frantic - almost hysterical. Her grandmother, who was with her, said, “Emily, this is nonsense. You would never notice it from a trotting horse.”
 Emily remembered that advice. Years later, she was preparing to lecture to a large audience when she noticed a run in her stocking. For a moment, she felt panic; then she remembered Grandma’s advice: “Nonsense, Emily, you would never notice it from a trotting horse!”
 What you think is so upsetting today is actually just trotting by. A year from now nobody will even think about it, not even you. Live by the calendar, not by the clock.
Today, Lord, I will accept only those thoughts, ideas, and practices that are pleasing to You. Help me to major in the majors, to look only at the big picture, as I live today. Knowing You are with me gives me peace. Amen.
Imagine you have a filter on your brain that clears out everything entering your mind that would hold you back from living your best life. What current thoughts, ideas, and practices would be filtered out? Which positive, affirming, motivating thoughts would pass easily through the filter?
