A Dilemma
lets say, I haven't paid my income taxes yet, or i have unpaid bills, such as credit cards, mortgages, insurance, etc. and suddenly I won a jackpot. Do you guys think my creditors would charge me a hefty fine for my unpaid bills just because they know I won a jackpot or worst sue me and hit me with some legal issues for a large amount of money now that they know about what I have, instead of just paying it of what I owe to them? do you guys think this 'blind trust' is a good idea for it to

Tips for the Latest Instant Millionaire
It's great to be rich, but fame is a bitch. So your primary mission is to claim the money without divulging your identity or having a mental breakdown. Here's how to do it: Don't tell anyone. The single most important rule for maintaining sanity after winning the lottery is: Do everything you can to keep your precious anonymity intact. Of course that means keeping your goddamned mouth shut. Don't share the news with your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or family. Resist even the urge to tell your

If you won a lottery jackpot..........
Quote: Originally posted by rundown99 on February 18, 2005Despite the option of forming a blind trust and remaining anonymous, it seems like many people are going public instead. What are your thoughts?I think it varies depending on the state. In some states, a trust or LLC can be used to claim winnings, while in others it cannot. In my state, winnings can be claimed through a trust and that is how I would do it. I wouldn't do the press conference, interviews, or anything like that. I wouldn'

fee-only cpa or not
I've given the same problem a lot of thought research in the dvent that someday I might win a major jackpot. In my case, other than setting up a blind trust to collect my winnings, I don't want to pay anyone to manage my money. Here's my plan: Say, I realize a lump sum of $10-million after taxes.First, I would ladder $5-million into CDARS. (Special CD arrangment). Second, I would buy myself $3-million in various annunities. Third, I would drop about $1-million into land and my own private

Why you should try to remain anonymous if you ever win a jackpot!
State lottery law on anonimity concerns varies widely from one state to another. Kansas, for example, has a law mandating anonimity of winners unless they sign a release form. Washington and other states allow attorneys acting as trustees of blind trusts to claim the money. Oregon and other states require that ticket redemption be performed by a natural person (meaning no trusts). Other states require you submit to a photo shoot ... still others require you submit to a press conference. One stat

Very good time to win the mega millions tonight
It would be hard, but for someone with my personality, and with my sketchy relatives, it would SO be worth it. I'd just have to keep my eye on the future, and keep in the front of my mind the repercussions of what would happen if I didn't stay anony. One more question I've been trying to find out. What kind of lawyer would be the best to contact first? Which specialty? The first thing I'd need to have done for me is to contact the lottery and find out if there are certain circumstances under

Do you think that "God" or some other Higher Power has anything to do with. .
I was answering from the viewpoint that there are many gods that are worshipped because there are so many religions. From my beliefs God condemns gambling or detests practices that promote a superstition in luck. And gambling encourages a blind trust in so called lady-luck. It then promotes a love for money which the bible warns is a root for all sort of injurious things , 1 Timothy 6:10. So this is why according to my beliefs, God has nothing to do with one winning the lottery. Sure ones who

Thanks Music...I see you are from sunny Cali. I grew up in San Diego county. Sure miss the weather, but not the crowds. Yes, I don't know if other states have the same rule or option, especially if you can claim with a blind trust. I emailed response to my future lottery attorney because when I asked him, he wasn't sure or couldn't give me a clear answer. Yes, I have an attorney all picked out for when we win. Have to think positive and even if we never win, well, had fun trying.
