Maybe I read his post wrong.I thought he meant that there were two winners in different states that were splitting the jackpot and one winner went public and the other prefered to remain anonymous.The winner that went public wanted the state that the anonymous winner lived in to prove that their actually was a winner by identifying the anonymous winner.

If Your Child Hit The Lottery, What Would You Do?
The only solution is to be anonymous (Go to an anonymous state, such as DE/KS/ND/MD or obtain anonymity in NH/OH/OK using a trust and tell NO ONE. Otherwise, relatives you never knew existed would appear out of nowhere. Oh my God, I couldn't imagine what it would be like to win $15 million and the whole nation knew that I won. Believe me, I would definitely form a trust and remain anonymous.

Would you travel to an "anonymous" state JUST to buy lottery tickets?
Anonymous state would include any state that allows lottery winners to remain anonymous (ND, KS, DE, LA, NH, SC, OH, MD).
If you don't live in a state that allows anonymity for lottery winners, is it worth traveling to a different state? After all, no matter how dedicated a lottery player you may be (even if the anonymous state was only 1 hour drive away), you could only drive to an out of town location so many times to play a game with these kinds of odds. Anonymous in the lottery isn't really anonymous. Just because the lottery doesn't give out the information doesn't mean that a lot of people won't find out, especially the people you know. Whatever it may be, a new house, a new car, etc, the people you know will find out that your financial situation has changed big time. So really, it's not anonymous.
