Mass. 6/42 & 6/49
I understand that Mass. has a very low advertising budget, if at all. The NY Lottery is very aggressive about advertising; however, I don't buy tickets on impulse.

Group still trying to undermine Arkansas Lottery
As state higher education officials mail out notices to the first recipients of Arkansas' lottery-funded college scholarships, a group that fought creation of the lottery says it is gearing up to start its anti-lottery campaign anew. Jerry Cox, executive director of the Christian conservative Family Council, says the group is making the lottery its No. 1 issue for next year's legislative session. The group has drafted two bills that would impose limits on lottery operations and will push f

N.C. Democrats feel heat on lottery
In North Carolina, legislative leaders trying to break a logjam on the state's budget are pressing reluctant House Democrats to support a much more aggressively advertised lottery than the version that squeaked through the House in April.Several House members have opposed a lottery that would attract ticket buyers through billboard, TV and radio campaigns that promote big-dollar jackpots. They fear such a lottery would prey on people who could least afford to play it.In exchange for supporting a

N.C. Lottery Foes Gather Strength
A group of high-profile lottery opponents vowed Wednesday to fight efforts to bring scratch-off tickets and numbers games to North Carolina. As opponents gathered in the Legislative Building in Raleigh to voice opposition, members of a special House committee on the lottery filed the bill that they will use to craft a state lottery. The work on that bill, which does not yet include details of how a lottery would be set up, is set to be finished by April 11.The opponents said they were working one

Despite sales influx from $2B Powerball, Massachusetts Lottery ticket sales falter
The Massachusetts State Lottery Tuesday stated it could be in some financial trouble regarding its overall sales for the fiscal year, despite the massive ticket sales generated by the recent Powerball jackpot worth $2 billion. According to Lottery Interim Director Mark Bracken, as of Sunday, lottery sales for the 2023 fiscal year are $22.5 million less than what they were for fiscal 2022. This includes overall instant ticket and scratch ticket sales, but it's an improvement from the $60 mill

MM jackpot $47M/$36.1M and PB jackpot $50M/$33.3
Perhaps advertising has something to do with it. I can't tell you the last time I saw an ad for Lotto; however, you can count on ads for PB and MM when their jackpots start getting into exciting territory. Also, I've seen a resurgence in the little bit of luck Take 5 campaign. And around here (Albany), we have highway billboards with the PB and MM jackpots, but I don't believe we have one for Lotto. Anyway, the point is, without a lot of advertising to plant the idea of playing Lotto in the p

State Lottery Site Advertising?
Maybe it's because of the economy, but the Florida Lottery has apparently partnered with a company and is having an eat for a year drawing on its site. Any U.S. citizen can enter, and the prize is a family meal each week at Pollo Tropical. (Would the value of this prize be taxed?) When I clicked on the official rules, it says the value is estimated to be $800. For a family? $800 divided by 52 is only about $15. Well, if you've got one of these restaurants nearby, it might be worth a try. Mayb

Paying a jackpot over 26 years is too long of a time frame
KY Floyd writes: if all they advertise is at least $5000 for any trade then the advertising is false and misleading. I usually would be the last person to defend a car dealership, but I disagree with you that this is false advertising. Someone would have to be a complete moron to think an old beater that isn't even running is worth a trade-in value of $5,000. Still, wouldn't it be nice if truth in advertising and truth in lending were really enforced? From my personal experience in sales, man

Longest running threads on Lottery Discussion
Referring to the original subject and content of this thread: Never gave it a second thought, but after reading the rules again, it looks like the thread in question is breaking all of them. The worst of which is shameless book advertising via "testimonials" from new members with less than a 100 posts each. It doesn't take a marketing analyst to see through this ploy. Kander from China is making a laughing stock of the no advertising rule. Reminds me of the sandwich board advertising of t

MA lottery definition of "millionaire"
If I were a Republican, which I'm not, I would be very careful about making representations about stretching the truth. Last I looked, there were American soldiers, many of them fine men and women, being blown to bits in service to equally obvious lies. It is of course not a mystery that all lotteries misrepresent what winners actually get. This is completely independent of the politics. In fact that only state that I know of that has actually inflated a jackpot far beyond what was actually j
