The local TV star who rigged the lottery
Shortly after 7pm on April 24th, 1980, millions of Pennsylvanians watched intently as a third and final ping-pong ball shot up the tube of a machine on live television. And there you have it, exclaimed the station's beloved announcer, Nick Perry. Today's Pennsylvania lottery daily number: 6-6-6! As the cheesy music faded and the lights dimmed, Perry implored lucky ticket holders at home to claim their prizes: If you've got it, come and get it! What the public didn't know was that Per

Tracking Consecutive Pairs
In an earlier discussion I raised the question as to why we track consecutive pairs when they are no always the best pairs. The answer was there are fewer of them and they hit 50% of the time. After some investigation I'm going to add one. Any consecutive pair sets two positions in your combination. Acting like key numbers they lock two numbers to consecutive positions. Disportionate Scratch-Off Winners in Southern Part of State
As a follow-up, I've started to see if there was any truth to my hunch that large winning scratch-offs were primarily in the southern part of my state (Virginia) and it's bit time-consuming as I have to go through each winner's story for each of the large scratch-off winners and make note of the city where the ticket was purchased, when, and how much was won. What I've come up is that up until October 9th (when I was collecting the information) there were a total of 80 scratch-off winners wit

NJ Lottery investigating retailer lottery ticket 'discounting' practices
Some people seem to have all the luck. And in New Jersey, some of the luckiest people are retailers who sell lottery tickets. Or so it appears from the New Jersey Lottery's list of winners. An Asbury Park Press review of Lottery claims submitted since 2009 found that half of the 20 most frequent prizewinners are either licensed lottery retailers or family members of store operators. As a group, those 10 people collected 840 prizes totaling almost $1.8 million, the Press found. About 70

Some lottery winning streaks have defied belief
The Brudnicks may be one of the luckiest families in Massachusetts. In just the last couple of years, Chelsea insurance agent Robert Brudnick has cashed in 140 winning Massachusetts lottery tickets worth at least $1,000 each. His 25-year-old daughter Ashley has racked up another 100 wins. And his 23-year-old son Nathan, has turned in 99 more. The total take: More than $440,000, mostly from scratch tickets. But state lottery officials and statisticians say they doubt any family could be tha
