Either she was very stupid or tried to commit fraud.
Seriously If I was the person behind you in the line I would have been supporting your right to receive fair pay for fair play. You won it honestly and deserved the correct payment back. I had the same thing happen with a clerk who has mastered confusion. I deliberately save up my weekly win. Tabulate them and place my final total on a sheet with a copy of the tickets. He argued for ten minutes that the machine is NOT wrong. So I showed him my COPY of each ticket the correct winnings eac

State Taxes if you live in another state
Does anyone know if you live in GA and were to win the powerball in TN or SC, do you pay the state tax of the state you played in or the state you live in......or do you have to pay both? Reason I ask, I travel for work to both states, live in GA, and can buy tickets in either place. SC has a 7% state tax, while TN has none? Cash value at this point would be 75M in TN, and 68 M in SC, a significant difference. Also, if you were to win in TN, could you personally move your residence to TN before

Things are downright wild at the Wild Flavors factory in Erlanger, Kentucky after 22 employees won a nearly $12 million Lotto South lottery jackpot. The smell of money was in the air for 22 employees who are the winners of a nearly $12 million lotto jackpot and they're not the only ones cashing in.What are the odds of two $12 million winning tickets being sold 16 miles apart in the same week. Amazingly someone in Green hills still has not come forward to claim their money. But there was a lot of

New Hampshire crushes lottery winners with new 10% tax
Ok, I live in WI, and won $1,590 in Illinois, WI/IL agreement said that money in IL does not get taxed. So I payed about $50 Ill taxes and none to WI. I kept my losing lottery tickets so I did not have to pay and fed taxes. I probably could have gotten my $50 back, but it wasn't worth it. When I won $10K from PB in Wisconsin I had to pay over 6% in taxes. But I reduced that by a bit by showing about $3,500 in loses. This is where it pays to save your losing old tickets for the year. I d

Do you keep track of how much you spent on lottery and have lost?
Yeah, Ga. has that double insult as a Game...it seems to be for 3rd party Marketing purposes..!! Getting players to send in losing tickets, or engaging their websites to read your phone's/computer's cookies,.. praying on hopes of still winning something after already losing once.. Never have talked to anyone who's ever won anything on such 2nd go around..!! I only save my tickets for Tax purposes..when you win , you can write-off your lottery losses against any taxes owed... -S

Post your scratch ticket results
This is something I've debated with my mother for a long time, as she has been a tax preparer for almost 20 years now. I've often wondered why she told me I couldn't write off losing lottery tickets.... and the answer is below! https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/tax-tips/Taxes-101/Can-You-Claim-Gambling-Losses-on-Your-Taxes-/INF14370.html Basically you need to be able to itemize on a schedule A, and have more of a value there then the standard deduction of a minim

Do you save all your losing tickets?
I do save my losing lottery tickets for tax purpose but the one time I won a prize large enough that the state sent me a W-G form I couldn't use them. For tax purposes lottery winnings are treated like regular income and your overall loses including the amount lost playing the lottery has to be greater the standard deduction that every one gets. Since you can only claim a lost up to the amount you won, you can only claim a lot if you won a lot. That particular year I spent ~$3000 on lott

Lottery Pool/Club
Pools are a great place to swim but for playing the lottery they can be a nightmare there are numerous news story's of pools gone bad members disputing winnings disbursing and members who were absent claiming they had a stake in the win etc.etc. A ten person pool is great for pots above 150 million anything else is a waste. After taxes will people really be happy a year after they win or will they be miffed because the didn't win more. I have been in many pools over the years when the jack
