Some lottery winners missing their jackpots
I recently read everyone who plays should save all there losing tickets. When you do your annual taxes, those losing tickets can be used to offset taxes applied to large winning tickets. So not only do I save my losing tickets, I occasionally double check my losers. I check them on the state website and the retailers barcode machines. So if I overlook a winner, I may find it when I double check them. So far I have found a couple one dollar winners. I never give my tickets to a retail store clerk

You may not have to pay any taxes, just save all your losing tickets and you can write them off.

do we have to pay any tax if win small?
If you do win enough to have to pay taxes, just save your losing tickets to write off some of the winnings when you itemize your taxes.

They monitor those sites for such....save them to offset any wins you might have...say you hit pick 4 ....you report your winning and then you can deduct your losses up to the amount you won...you receive credit for the taxes that were deducted by the lottery..and reduce any further tax obligation on that win. You have to save the tickets to claim them as a loss though. So I only throw tickets away at the end of the year, if I had no reportable wins...
