I have never seen any lp member demand to know who any anonymous winner was. It is news if the ticket is claimed in an anonymous state or non-anonymous state. The human interest story is the fact that the ticket was claimed and not lost and any other info they choose to share, such as how the numbers were picked. I would love to see an example to support your claim. Who are these folks?

The only way to be an anonymous winner living in a state that doesn't allow anonymous claims or claims through a trust is to buy your ticket in a state that does allow it. This is because you have to claim in the state where you purchased your ticket, and you are subject to that state's rules, not your home state's. The anonymous winner of the big pot in SC may well have been from a nearby state where anonymous claims are not permitted.

I assume since SC is an anonymous state per state law, state lottery officials would have to advise the winner of the anonymous option...and the pros and cons. If the winner thinks they merit the public level of attention as a cure for cancer, the lottery officials could not force the winner to remain anonymous.
