While some celebrate the move toward digital convenience, in-person retailers bite back By Kate Northrop The New Jersey Lottery has announced that it has voted to approve selling tickets online. During a meeting on Aug. 17, the New Jersey Lottery Commission announced its decision to start selling tickets directly to players online. New bill in Wisconsin could allow some lottery winners to remain anonymous
Protecting Social Security #, give me a break. That has been in effect that I know of Federally since 1974. Many years ago my hospital employer would print out the hours an individual worked. It included your SSAN for anyone to dig through the pile to see. Yearly we had surveys to fill out which were anonymous. Said in mine if someone steals mine in violation of Federal law and I'd sue. Well they quickly gave everyone an AHS # to use and no more SSAN used. Fast forward two visits ago goi

$925 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears billion-dollar milestone
I think you are confusing the profit made from selling an asset called Capital Gains from interest earned from T.Bills and bonds. If you hold an asset for more than one year, the profit earned from disposing the same after one year (capital gains) are taxed at a max of 20% For T.Bill and Bonds, the interest paid out is treated as normal income and are Federally taxed as such up to 37% max. The same however are exempt from both State and Local Income tax. Municipal bonds are another o

$70 million Canada Lotto Max jackpot-winning ticket expires
Did you read the article? While the winner may never see their $70 million prize, the awareness campaign resulted in over 1,100 calls to OLG's Customer Care Center with people claiming to have lost the ticket, the Lottery said. However, the Lottery is carefully considering each and every claim, meaning there might yet be a flicker of hope that one of those callers may be the real winner. and.. unclaimed prizes (not just jackpots) are returned to the pool (not handed over to the gove

VIDEO: May's Weekly Roundup in lottery news
I believe it is not the state's job to hunt down lottery winners. If a person takes the time and money to buy a ticket, it shouldn't be that hard to go online and check the ticket. Only takes a minute and a couple of clicks. Can't speak for all states, but Tx Lottery does not keep unclaimed money. Unclaimed prizes revert back to the state for programs authorized by the Texas Legislature, including the Foundation School Fund and Fund for Veterans' Assistance , which are the primary benefi

"Lottery Lawyer" Jason Kurland sentenced to prison after defrauding winners of over $100 million
Kurland was also sentenced to three years of supervised release. Supervised release is different than probation or parole as it's served after a defendant is released from prison and is supervised by a probation officer. If he violates the terms/conditions of his supervised release he can be sent back to prison to serve the remaining time of his supervised release. What will his quality of life be like after he's released? Because he wont have much money, it wont be very good and certai

Florida winner of $1.6 billion Mega Millions jackpot steps forward to claim prize
I was a bit curious on the 90 day anonymity FL law and if the state posted name automatically or it had to be done through a FOI records request. So using LP 's anonymity posting it lead me to the FL lottery sight stating, Beginning May 25, 2022, the names of Lottery winners claiming prizes of $250,000 or greater will be temporarily exempt from public disclosure (pursuant to F.S.24.1051(3)(a)) for 90 days from the date the prize is claimed, unless otherwise waived by the winner I went to th

$925 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot nears billion-dollar milestone
All that you have said is true and I totally agree with that. 441M is a huge sum of money. 278M after the taxes, is still a huge sum of money. I always ask myself, how much is enough? Is there an end to wanting more and more. If somehow you could spend 100K a month for ever, that is beyond anyone's wildest imagination. Now am speaking for myself, I don't want to complicate my life, I don't want to stay up wondering how my investments are doing, is the dip in the market going to wipe

State casinos and lottery to co-exist with skill game machines By Kate Northrop The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court found that unregulated skill games are legal in Pennsylvania, much to the disappointment of online and retail casinos. Unregulated skill games are now considered legal in Pennsylvania after a court order from the Commonwealth Court clarified their stance on whether skill games are considered games of chance or skill. The legality of skill games, as well as what exac
