Independent group finds that more than 65,000 lottery winners stayed on food stamps after their wins By Kate Northrop An independent group surveyed government data and found that over 65,000 individuals who won significant lottery prizes have continued collecting food stamps. Editorial: Study of lottery winners still receiving food stamps is flawed but raises good points
If a law was passed that a person on government assistance could not play the lottery I can assure you these pots would never get to millions of dollars or even close. Those are the people that play more than the wealthy. I don't know if it's true or not but I have heard the lottery targets their advertising to the poorer areas. Any free handout , any government program will always have some abusers. Just be thankful you are not one of those who need it.

Virginia Lottery retailers refuse to sell tickets to draw attention to skill games amendment
Let's be crystal clear about what's happening here. The government is protecting a revenue source (the lottery). The whole thing about schools and churches is a way to achieve that goal. Any government lottery official reading this would not be happy with me, but although I am a big supporter of the lottery, I am not a shill for the lottery. First they tried banning skill games. That did not work, so they are now trying to limit where they can be played to the point of banning them for a

$1.05 BILLION: Mega Millions keeps rolling after no winner Friday
The government takes a lot of your money in taxes and wastes far more than you ever will...it's all relative...you may waste a little of your money but the government will waste a lot more. You probably aren't really wasting money unless it causes something that costs you even more money.

Virginia Lottery retailers refuse to sell tickets to draw attention to skill games amendment
No disagreement from me that the government needs to regulate all forms of gambling in the state. 35% seems monumentally excessive however. That's a case of trying to protect the lottery, rather than a logical fee. So I agree on the regulation, but I think the fee should be smaller. (Incidentally I think they take too large of a cut on the lottery too, so you can see where my mind is at on these things.)

Especially considering you have to be recertified every 6 months for SNAP. That little bit of money at most might get your benefits cut. I didn't read anything in the article about any welfare queens re-upping after winning significant lottery prizes. I also noticed how they went from SNAP to All government resources. Just completely misleading IMO.
