My thoughts on MM when CA joins
1 in 10 overall odds would completely make up for the impossible jackpot odds.

Number 2 as mb this week ?
Quote: Originally posted by RJOh on April 21, 2004It has been 194 drawings (almost 2 yrs) since 2 came up as a megaball and you are suggesting that there is a 99% chance it may be another 237 drawings (over 2 yrs) before it comes up again? I think all 52 balls will have come twice in that amount of time if the present format last that long.RJOhThere is a finite, but small, possibility that it will never come in our lifetimes. The odds of winning the mega-millions is of course 1 in 135,145,920.

Best way to predict numbers
Quote: Originally posted by Jake649 on April 08, 2004prob987,There are two situations.1. What are the odds that the following ticket (1, 12, 23, 32, 41, MB13) is selected twice in a row using quick picks? Answer: (1 in 135,000,000) squared.2. What are the odds that any two quick picks match exactly. Answer: First you buy one quick pick. The odds of getting any combination is 1 in 1 because any combination will do. Then you buy a second ticket where the numbers must match the first ticket, odds o

Best way to predict numbers
Quote: Originally posted by prob987 on April 08, 2004Sometimes I buy two quick picks just for the thrill of beating extraordinary odds. If you buy two megamillions quickpicks, the odds of getting the ticket with exactly those two numbers printed on them is roughly 1.8 X 10^16, or about 3% of the age of the universe measured in seconds. Beating such odds, as you do everytime you buy such a ticket, doesn't get you any money, but it's thrilling nonetheless.prob987,I do not agree with your calcula

Lucky for Life
Since I follow and play the C4L game ... the same thing that happens in C4L game for the 2nd prize odds also happens in the Lucky for Life for the 2nd prize odds. The 'printed odds' are actually higher than the 'true odds'.
The L4L printed odds for the 2nd prize are: 1 in 1,813,028 but if you use a 'lottery odds calculator' you will get better odds more in the player's favor ... the 'true odds' for winning the 2nd prize.
The true odds: 1 in 1,712,304 ... granted, it's not a big difference

The vastness of the odds for a jackpot win...
I read online that the odds on a Powerball or Mega Millions jackpot win, is between 142 million and 176 million. To expect to win even ONCE in your lifetime, playing twice a week, no less, one would have to play for 435 thousand years, to hit in ONCE. Clearly, the odds of winning by buying a ticket are almost equal to the odds of winning by finding an unsigned QP ticket on the street and pocketing it from the unlucky stranger gambler that bought it and lost it, and winning with that! You simply

Probabilty of Someone Winning a PB & MM Jackpot in the same Week!
Totally disagree, John. Why do you think the odds would be cut in half? That would mean that everyone will eventually win if they just keep playing!
The odds are the odds are the odds are the odds. They don't change just because there is one drawing, two drawings or 10 drawings. This is the same logic people use when they assume buying 2 tickets changes the odds. It does very slightly, but not by 50%. If the odds are 1 in 10 million, 2 tickets makes the odds 2 in 10 million, not 1 in 5
