Three people redeemed a fraudulent Hoosier Lottery ticket worth $2 million, buying a home and several vehicles with the money before police caught on to the scam, court documents allege. Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry announced in a news conference Thursday that two men and a woman all relatives are facing 15 criminal counts in connection with a lottery fraud scheme that raked in more than $1.1 million. California couple face felony charges for stealing $135 worth of Iowa Lottery tickets
Basically like that. The packs have control numbers, the lottery knows exactly which stores have which packs. When the store alerts the lottery to the theft, the lottery invalidates or flags all the scratchers from those packs.

Hoosier Lottery Commission votes to approve $50,000 prize claim to winner whose ticket was ripped up
I've never seen a retailer print on a winning ticket before that would be an expensive printer and time consuming. The Bar Code on the back is for Lottery and Retailer use only not for the consumer, so you could have a picture on your phone and scan it and the cashier would be apart of the theft. Black out works but it's too messy just cover with a thumb or fold the bar code out of view.

Who is Sam Bankman-Fried and Why Are The Fed's After Him?
It's the essence of a con game. Why is it called a con ? Because the guy who is a con artist is also known as a confidence man . The whole idea of any scam is for the criminal to gain the victims confidence so as to be able to steal their money. But SBF is not a Con Man. He's a thief. He took his clients money out of their accounts without their knowledge and invested it in some highly risky investments that failed. "Lottery Lawyer" Jason Kurland charged with robbing jackpot winners of millions
Well since they disclosed their fees upfront, that is not an issue and is what the firm was supposed to do. That amount of money is not unreasonable. Even the monthly fees are not unreasonable if the client asked them to oversee the money. The issue is the theft of the money and steering the winner to personal investments where there was a conflict of interest.

Scratch off theft does seem to be a crime that's hard to get away with -- except maybe for petty amounts that aren't worth the effort. The thieves who've figured it out are the ones we'll never read about.

Coronavirus impacting North Carolina lottery sales
that's why we need to have machines put in the stores to take the lottery away from the cashiers reduce the payback to the stores for not being hassled by players , reduce the theft by store employee's , and to in general lighten the load of everyone. I know some people that play big like that those are the exact people that are asked to step to the back but my point is and was we need machines and less human interaction people are scared to scan DL's to play so I understand the state not wantin

Judge rules Massachusetts Lottery can suspend high-frequency winners
Slightly off topic, but concerning scratchers: lt would appear, at least in this neck of the woods that breaking into a convenient store stealing rolls upon rolls of scratchers is USELESS. Spoke to a store owner yesterday he said that every scratcher has to be scanned on site : to activate- before handing the ticket over to the customer- no on property scan, ticket is garbage. It reminded me of that one thief awhile ago, caught on cameras bagging rolls of the stuff. I can't recall the State this
