Pennsylvania's Powerball Lottery Winner Claims $60 Million Jackpot

Luzerne County Lottery Winner Identified

It will be a happy holiday season for one man from Luzerne County. He is the big winner of the Pennsylvania Lottery`s Powerball jackpot from earlier this month.

Steven Lloyd of Harding received a check Monday afternoon for 37.6 million.  He picked up his Powerball winnings at the Pennsylvania Lottery headquarters near Harrisburg.

"Good things take time, but great things happen in an instant!" Lloyd said.

His good fortune started when he bought a cup of coffee and a granola bar earlier this month at the Turkey Hill in Exeter, Luzerne County. He decided to try his luck at the lottery.

"The change that came from that had a five dollar bill in it.  I asked the girl what Powerball was at.  I said, 'Just put the change in Powerball,'" Lloyd recounted.

It turns out, Lloyd was holding the winning Powerball ticket, worth almost $60 million. He said he couldn't believe it. He checked the ticket about 15 times, and then had his mom double check it.

"It was then I realized I was the sole winner of $59.9 million," Lloyd said.

He is the 14th person to win Powerball in Pennsylvania and his winnings are the 12th largest the state has ever seen.

Lloyd has decided to take the lump sum payment of $37.6 million.  He said his first purchase will most likely be a new car but other than that he`s not sure.

"I haven`t planned anything yet.  I want to have a year of transition and see how it shakes out.  I`ve contacted advisory people to help me do that," the new millionaire said.

Lloyd wasn`t the only winner. The Turkey Hill in Exeter where he bought the ticket will get a $100,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Lloyd said he will play the lottery again, even though he thinks he has used up most of his luck.

Three Connecticut Money Managers Claim $254M Powerball Jackpot (Video)

ROCKY HILL, Conn. — Members of a wealth management firm on Monday claimed a $254 million Powerball jackpot first announced on Nov. 2.

The 27-day mystery of who won ended when Greg Skidmore, Brandon Lacoff and Tim Davidson appeared at the Connecticut Lottery headquarters and revealed themselves as the trustees for a family trust created to handle the funds.

The Putnam Avenue Family Trust, named after the street address for Belpointe Asset Management, is taking the after-tax lump sum of $103.5 million in cash. It was not clear how many members are in the trust.

A lawyer for the trust said a "significant amount" will go to charity.

Davidson, a portfolio manager with Belpointe Asset Management, bought the $1 quick pick ticket at the Shippan Point Getty station in Stamford. The winning numbers were 12-14-34-39-46, Powerball 36.

Skidmore, who is president of Belpointe, said the jackpot "feels good."

The jackpot was the largest ever won in Connecticut and the 12th biggest in Powerball history.

Lacoff is managing director of the firm.

Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank Will Not Seek Re-election In 2012

Barney Frank not seeking re-election in 2012

Washington (CNN) -- Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank, a prominent 16-term liberal Democrat and arch-enemy of political conservatives nationwide, will announce Monday he does not intend to seek re-election in 2012, according to a statement from Frank's office.

Frank will hold a news conference in his district to discuss the decision at 1 p.m.

Frank, first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, currently serves as the top Democrat on the powerful House Financial Services Committee. Among other things, he co-authored the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial regulatory reform bill. The measure, designed to rein in Wall Street excesses in the wake of the 2008 financial collapse, passed the House without any GOP support.

The veteran congressman made headlines earlier in his career by becoming one of the first openly gay members of Congress. He was formally reprimanded by the House in 1990 for allegations relating to his association with a male prostitute.

Frank's district, centered around the liberal Boston suburbs of Newton and Brookline, is considered safe Democratic political terrain. Frank did, however, receive an unusually strong challenge from Republican Sean Bielat in 2010.

Frank ultimately defeated Bielat, 54% to 43%

UPDATE: Russian Newscaster FIRED After Giving Barack Obama The Finger On Live TV

Tatyana Limanova Russian Newscaster Fired

Tatyana Limanova, one of Russia's most popular and respected newscasters, has been fired from her job at REN TV, after a video of her appearing to give President Barack Obama the middle finger on live TV went viral on the internet.

The incident occurred on Nov. 14, during a segment about Russian President Dmitry Medvedev assuming the chairmanship of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation. Obama had held the position previously, and Limanova raised her middle finger as she read Obama's name.

Limanova said that the incident was an embarrassing misunderstanding -- she did not know that she was on camera and was directing the gesture at studio technicians. "I thought I was out of shot," she said, according to The Telegraph.

The TV station, however, decided to remove her from her position on air. "This does not diminish her guilt and cannot be considered an excuse. The REN TV management views this action as the gravest violation of on-air discipline and a demonstration of unprofessionalism," the channel said, according to RIA.

"A decision has been taken that T Limanova cannot and will not continue to work on the REN TV channel as a presenter," the station said in a statement, according to The Daily Mail.

"Obviously the channel's management decided to view this clumsy curious incident seriously and I completely accept and respect that. Some people viewed it with irony, while others did not. I understand that I damaged the channel and perhaps offended some of the viewers."

Limanova told RIA that English-language media took the video out of context.

"It is a brilliant example of how facts can be interpreted. I have an incredibly positive opinion of President Barack Obama and my gesture had no relation to the respected president of the United States," she told The Telegraph.
