Company Policy: "We Are Not Hiring Until Obama Is Gone"

WACO, Ga. -- A West Georgia business owner is stirring up controversy with signs he posted on his company's trucks, for all to see as the trucks roll up and down roads, highways and interstates:

"New Company Policy: We are not hiring until Obama is gone."

"Can't afford it," explained the employer, Bill Looman, Tuesday evening. "I've got people that I want to hire now, but I just can't afford it. And I don't foresee that I'll be able to afford it unless some things change in D.C."

Looman's company is U.S. Cranes, LLC.  He said he put up the signs, and first posted pictures of the signs on his personal Facebook page, six months ago, and he said he received mostly positive reaction from people, "about 20-to-one positive."

But for some reason, one of the photos went viral on the Internet on Monday.

And the reaction has been so intense, pro and con, he's had to have his phones disconnected because of the non-stop calls, and he's had to temporarily shut down his company's website because of all the traffic crashing the system.

Looman made it clear, talking with 11Alive's Jon Shirek, that he is not refusing to hire to make some political point; it's that he doesn't believe he can hire anyone, because of the economy. And he blames the Obama administration.

"The way the economy's running, and the way my business has been hampered by the economy, and the policies of the people in power, I felt that it was necessary to voice my opinion, and predict that I wouldn't be able to do any hiring," he said.

Looman did receive some unexpected attention not long after he put up his signs and Facebook photos. He said someone, and he thinks he knows who it was, reported him to the FBI as a threat to national security. He said the accusation filtered its way through the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and finally the Secret Service. Agents interviewed him.

"The Secret Service left here, they were in a good mood and laughing," Looman said. "I got the feeling they thought it was kind of ridiculous, and a waste of their time."

So Bill Looman is keeping the signs up, and the photos up -- stirring up a lot of debate.

"I just spent 10 years in the Marine Corps protecting the rights of people... the First Amendment, and the Second Amendment and the [rest of the] Bill of Rights," he said. "Lord knows they're calling me at 2 in the morning, all night long, and voicing their opinion. And I respect their right to do that. I'm getting a reaction, a lot of it's negative, now. But a lot of people are waking up."

NYC Groom Commits Suicide Hours After His Wedding

The sister of a New York City groom who killed himself hours after exchanging marriage vows said Tuesday that he was distraught over feeling "pressured into marriage."

Fernando Brazier, 28, jumped into the Harlem River over the weekend, hours after marrying his bride, Trudian Hay, with whom he had two young daughters.

Brazier's sister, Shawna Weeks, told FoxNews.com that he often came to her home every Thursday after work to talk about his concerns -- his eyes "blood shot" and in a state of despair. "They had nothing in common," Weeks said. "That’s why they postponed the wedding a year ago. He was being pressured into it."   Weeks said Brazier considered 26-year-old Hay to be a "great person," but "just not for him."

He reportedly left a suicide note for Hay at the front desk of the Radisson Hotel in New Rochelle, where the couple celebrated their wedding on Saturday.  Weeks told the New York Post that Brazier also "left his ring in the envelope."  Efforts by FoxNews.com to reach Hay's family were unsuccessful.

Police sources told the newspaper that Brazier’s note said he could be found at the bottom of the river, not far from a Pathmark supermarket and Dyckman Street on the Manhattan side.   Witnesses reported seeing Brazier walk out of the Radisson and into a cab sometime before 9 a.m. local time Sunday.

He made his way to 55 Richman Plaza about 15 minutes away in the Bronx, where he jumped either from a building or the promenade behind it, police sources told the Post.

Brazier’s body was later found in the waters near Roberto Clemente State Park, slightly upstream from where he was believed to have jumped, according to the newspaper.

Brazier and Hay had reportedly dated since they were teenagers and had two children together, ages 5 and 2.

$200,000 Powerball Lottery Prize Finally Goes to 'Rightful' Winner

Roy Chase

The Tennessee Lottery presented a $200,000 Powerball prize Tuesday to a Sumner County man whose winning ticket was allegedly stolen by two convenience store clerks on June 3, 2011. The clerks were arrested and the pending case is set for preliminary hearing on December 14 in Sumner County General Sessions Court.

“I am so thankful for the work that has gone into getting this prize to me,” said Mr. Roy Chase, a retired employee of the Ford Glass Plant. “This is a blessing for me and my family,” said Mr. Chase, whose tale began on June 3, when he took a Powerball ticket to Xpress Mart, 507 N. Broadway in Portland, to see if he had matched any of the numbers drawn in the Powerball drawing held June 1.

According to records, the clerk, Kanubhai Bhatt, scanned the tickets and told Chase the ticket was not a winner.

On August 29, 2011, Piyushkumar Patel, the son-in-law of Bhatt, tried to cash the ticket himself at the Lottery’s Nashville headquarters. At that time, Lottery Security in accordance with internal Lottery procedures conducted an investigation and discovered possible criminal conduct and contacted the Sumner County District Attorney’s office. Both men, who live in Sumner County, were arrested and charged with felony theft over $60,000, a Class B Felony under Tennessee law.

“We have a number of safeguards in place to protect our players and maintain the integrity of the Lottery,” said Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. “In this instance our process revealed irregularities and our security team investigated accordingly. Today we are thrilled to pay the rightful owner of the winning ticket his prize.”

“Confidence in our games is critical to the Lottery’s continued success,” said Hargrove. “This is a great time to remind our players that the best method of protecting your winnings is to always sign the ticket immediately and to check the winning numbers personally.”

Russian Reporter Gives Barack Obama Middle Finger During Live Broadcast

It appears, based on the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the exchange rate of the Euro posted at the bottom of the screen, that the newscast was aired on Nov. 11. The segment was uploaded to YouTube on Nov. 19 and has gone viral over the web.

In a no-nonsense tone, Limanova introduces the segment by saying Medvedev gave a presentation in front of APEC organizers. Then she notes that the Russian president is soon to be taking over APEC leadership responsibilities that were previously held by American President Barack Obama. It's when she says his name that she jabs her middle finger into the air in the traditional obscene salute.

Limanova works for REN-TV, one of Russia's largest privately-owned news channels. The Moscow-based networkhas a purported audience of 113 million.

New York Couple Ties the Knot, Toasts the Future with $1,000,000 Lottery Win

Jason and Joy Peterson, married in June, never dreamed their big day would be followed by a Mega payday just five months later. The Petersons are the newest statewide winners of a $1,000,000 cash prize on the New York Lottery’s new Mega Money Multiplier scratch-off game.

Jason Peterson purchased the couple’s $1,000,000 winning ticket on October 7 at the I & W (Mobil) Food Mart on Route 32 in Kingston. “I was on my way to work and stopped to put some gas in my truck,” explained the auto parts professional. “I went inside and decided to grab a ticket. I asked for one of the newest [tickets] they had and the clerk handed me this one.” Peterson said he wasn’t prepared for the shock of winning $1,000,000.

“I was shaking like a leaf,” explained the father of three. “My first thought was to call my wife and then I called work to tell them I would be late.” Joy Peterson, 47, who works in sales support for Anaconda Sports, said she answered her husband’s telephone call with cautious optimism. “I kept asking, ‘Are you sure? Are you SURE?’”

The Petersons claimed their prize October 27 at the Lottery’s Customer Service Center in Schenectady. The couple opted to split the $1,000,000 prize evenly with each receiving a one-time payment of $500,000 (net $330,150).  The newlyweds plan to use the prize to “secure their children’s future” and buy a new home of their own. Asked about plans for a second honeymoon, Jason Peterson quipped, “We might take a quiet family vacation…to Disney!”

10-Year-Old North Carolina Girl Hangs Herself After Being Bullied at School

Nov. 16-CHADBOURN, N.C. —  Columbus County authorities are investigating the death of a 10-year-old girl who hanged herself Monday night after repeatedly being bullied at school.

Samantha West said she found her daughter, Jasmine McClain, dead in her bedroom Monday night.

"I just lost it because she took her last breath in my arms," West said Wednesday. "She was a loving child. I just don't understand."

Chadbourn Police Chief Steven Shaw said her death was obviously suicide, and he was about to close the case when he started checking posts on Facebook and other social media about Jasmine and her death.

"Children started coming forward and making accusations that she was bullied – and bullied bad – in school," Shaw said.

Jasmine was picked on at Chadbourne Elementary School, West said, noting other children teased her about her clothes or her shoes. She left the school for a while and dreaded having to return about a month ago, her mother said.

"It's a shame that kids are that cruel. It really is," West said, noting that she never knew how badly Jasmine had been tormented.

"Everyone that we have spoken to, there are little indicators – not huge indications – but small indications that she was not happy," Shaw said.

State lawmakers passed two anti-bullying laws two years ago. One made online bullying of children a misdemeanor, while the other required school districts to adopt policies to prohibit bullying without specifying the punishment for violators.

Shaw said it's too early to determine whether anyone could face criminal charges in Jasmine's death.

Chadbourn Elementary Principal Deanna Shuman said the school is working with police and is also conducting its own investigation. Flags outside the school flew at half-staff on Wednesday in Jasmine's memory.

Things We Do For Love - Man Digs Through Garbage Dump to Find Wife's Ring

We’ve all thrown away something that we’ve regretted, but in the case of a Florida man, he threw out his wife’s engagement ring!  When they realized where it was, the man dug through heaps of garbage at the dump to get it back.

It happened when Brian McGuinn went to throw out a razor, and somehow his wife’s engagement ring went with it.  It’s a 1.5 carat diamond ring valued at $10,000, so it was horrifying to learn of the mistake. His wife states that she realizes jewelry can be replaced, but was still devastated by it nonetheless.

The couple have been married five years and are expecting their first child, so McGuinn did what most men wouldn’t – he drove to the dump. There he was aided by waste management workers who figured out approximately where the garbage from his area would be, and he started digging.

Miraculously, he found the ring.

“Once I found it, I actually let out a manly scream!,” says McGuinn, who describes the moment of finding his wife’s bling amongst the garbage as winning the lottery. He rushed home to return the ring to its rightful owner.

Because of his efforts, I’m thinking that McGuinn should win the husband of the year award. Most men wouldn’t do that, and I know that I wouldn’t. Kudos on a job well done!
