Iowa Lottery to shorten prize claim periods for multi-state games
The change has no monetary benefit to the Iowa Lottery, It frees up prize money for other games, and we all know advertising more money an boost sales. It might not be huge, but it sure sounds like a monetary benefit to me. it certainly gives no monetary benefit to the players. But, but, but ... it might make players less likely to lose their tickets. I'm willing to believe that there's a small possibility that one in a great while somebody might want to put off claiming the ticket

Americans gamble over half a trillion dollars illegally each year, AGA Report says
Call me what you want but I say GOOD. The casinos are trying to get the IRS to raise the taxable limit from $1200 to $5K on slot winnings. Yet the debacle continues with lottery winnings taxed @ anything over $600. Makes a lot of sense doesn't it? The US Government should abolish the 1962 law forbidding sports betting/lottery sales across state lines. IGT did win their case for sports betting though. Boat loads of cash for the US Treasury because folks are going to gamble be i

Record $1.9 billion Powerball drawing delayed until Tuesday
The increase I was using was based on a figure that's been updated, and it looks like Saturday's finished at about 800, so the actual increase was closer to 177ish, which matches fairly well with sales of about 276 million tickets. The percentage of combinations used by a given number of randomly selected tickets, and the percentage of duplicates is a standard statistical calculation. You can read as much as you want, but the first few lines cover the basic concept: https://en.wikipedia.org/

One lottery ticket sold in California wins $2 billion Powerball jackpot
Lump-sum cash option worth $997.6 million By Todd Northrop Around the United States, millions of people had to wait an extra ten hours last night to find out if they won the unbelievably massive Powerball jackpot, due to one unnamed state's inability to deal with the huge amount of ticket sales data. When the drawing did finally occur Tuesday morning, it turns out that just one ticket sold in California matched all six numbers drawn and won the entire jackpot. After all sales we

Playing Quick Picks Versus Picking Your Own Numbers
I went totally berzerk yesterday when I bought a PB ticket. I did my crazy five lines of five identical white ball numbers thing with The Power Play added, and then I thought I should buy the Double Play just for laughs.... The ticket cost me 20 bucks and I got some of it back because I won $7 due to the fact I had the Double Play PB number. When playing like I do (I mostly do this when the jackpot is huge and I don't normally buy The Double Play) gives me a shot at winning a $10,000,000 se

$1.2 BILLION: Powerball jackpot grows to 4th-largest in history
So basically, u predict a rollover? Me? I'm not predicting anything, but the TX lottery website is forecasting sales of 181 million tickets. If they were all chosen randomly the chance of at least one winners is 46.2%, so a rollover is the most likely outcome by a small margin. They're also listing the actual jackpot as 1.24 billion, but I don't know if that was the original forecast when the worksheet was first posted on Monday afternoon or if that's been updated. I play every game

Pick 3 & 4 question.
If the clerk is competent they can probably do advance plays for specific days, within a limited range. Based on my limited experience I'm assuming what's allowed varies by game and by state. My actual experience is knowing that in PA you can play advanced draws for MM while skipping the first/next drawing (buy on Tuesday but play Friday and the following Tuesday for example) but you can't skip the first/next drawing when buying advance plays for PB. Or maybe it's the other way around. I jus

Pennsylvania: 9/1 - 9/30/2022
If you go to the PA lottery website, there's a More tab all the way to the right. If you select About Us News from the More tab, you can get to a profit report. In glancing through that report, total sales on Fast Play for previous year was $149 million. Overall, they are returning a 20% payout margin, so going from that Fast Play brings them roughly $120 million a year. They keep around 80 cents on every dollar the players spend. In June 2024, they are mandated to roll the payout percentage

mega millions power ball and pick 5 numbers games aren't rigged.
50 lines of Mega Millions, please. And would you mind putting this umbrella over the machine while it's printing? I fear I'm being spied upon. Just in the nick of time, draw sales are set to close in 10 minutes. But I assure you sir, there are no spies in this shop. That's just what a spy would say! Now I must insist you also put a blindfold on while printing my tickets. And the shopgirl as well to be on the safe side. Sir, you need to leave. You are no longer welco
