Is this why some who win a jackpot blow it all?

This is from a book called The Art of Simple Living

by Shunmyo Masuno, a Japanese monk

When we are afflicted with greed once we acquire it is whatever it is we desire, we are still left wanting more.

Very interesting passage in a book by the Dalai Lama

From The Dalai Lama's Big Book of Happiness

On one occasion in New York one medical scientist mentioned to me that according to his findings those people who often express in, "I, me, mine" have a greater risk of having a heart attack. The reason of course is that such people cherish themselves very much and are too much self-centered, so with that kind of attitude even small problems seem unbearable.

Don't let Bernie Sanders fool you

From Forbes

12. Bernie Sanders

Net worth:  $2.5 million
Financial transparency score:  4/5
Money raised:  $75 million

Turns out, the socialist senator is a pretty successful capitalist. After running for president in 2016, Sanders inked three lucrative book deals that have brought him more than $2 million so far, catapulting him into the 1%. Since the 2016 election, he has shelled out $575,000 for a northern Vermont summer home and paid off a 30-year mortgage on his Burlington, Vermont, house—25 years early.

This is worse than losing a football bet by 1/2 point

I'm reading this James Patterson book The 11th Hour.

In the book the number 104 and 613 are mentioned a few times.

So a few nights ago 631 hit the IL Eve Pick 3.

I took it as a sign and played 104 the next night, straight box + the fireball.

103 hit and the fireball was 5.

Scared

On Nov 21 I had Houston @ -3.5 (make believe bet, not real, but still);

Indianapolis
Houston

HOU -3.5

The bronze rat statue

A Tourist walked into a Chinese curio shop in San Francisco. While looking around at the exotic-merchandise, he noticed a very lifelike, life-sized, bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but was so incredibly striking the tourist decided he must have it He took it to the old shop owner and asked, "How much for the bronze rat ?"

"Ahhh, you have chosen wisely! It is $12 for the rat and $100 for the story," said the wise old Chinaman.

  The tourist quickly pulled out twelve dollars. "I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story".

  As he walked down the street carrying his bronze rat, the tourist noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the alleys and sewers and had begun following him down the street. This was a bit disconcerting so he began walking faster

  A couple blocks later he looked behind him and saw to his horror the herd of rats behind him had grown to hundreds, and they began squealing.

Sweating now, the tourist began to trot toward San Francisco Bay.

Again, after a couple blocks, he looked around only to discover that the rats now numbered in the MILLIONS, and were squealing and coming toward him faster and faster.

  Terrified, he ran to the edge of the Bay and threw the bronze rat as far as he could into the Bay.

  Amazingly, the millions of rats all jumped into the Bay after the bronze rat and were all drowned.

The man walked back to the curio shop in Chinatown.

"Ahhh," said the owner, "You come back for story ?"

"No sir," said the man, "I came back to see if you have a bronze Democrat.

Did you see that one coming?

Is it legal to keep cash you find on the ground?

The answer may surprise you;

https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/personalfinance/is-it-legal-to-keep-cash-you-find-on-the-ground/ar-AAHfhCI?li=BBnb7Kz

This is from the article;

“If a person fails to turn over found money or property to law enforcement, it is considered theft and a person can be prosecuted,” said Reischer.

When I was a kid a guy and his son were walking down a street in Jersey City and spotted a car in a driveway with the trunk opened slightly. They checked out the car and found a satchel in the trunk containing a lot of cash (turned out to be $50,000).Knocked on the door, no answer.

So they walked to a nearby police station, told the desk sergeant the story and handed the money over. They were told to check back in a few days.

A few days later they return to the police station.

No money, no desk sergeant. "No one has seen him since a few days ago", they were told.

A unofficial guideline

Just some hints for our few 'elite' (in their own minds anyway)

You don't have to post in every thread.

Posting back to back top back to back is for egomaniacs.

Considering the above you can reply to several people in one post, you don't have to copy what each of them said.

The Tao Te Ching tells us;

Those who know don't need to be told, those who don't know seldom listen.

So I realize posting the above may be tinkling in the wind but it needed to be said.
