How exactly are lottery scratchers numbered in CA
Looking around the web, I see that numbers are generated sequentially.
So, if there are 18million tickets, I would expect my ticket to be somewhere from 1 to 18million.
However, since there are books and then sub numbers, I have to calculate slightly differently.
Concretely, I have a CA 200X scratcher that has about 18million total tickets.
I look at a ticket and see a number 1182345-025. If I assume each book at 30 tickets, it means my
book should start at 1182345 to 118237

Is it Rigged?
There must be some advantage to the lottery, otherwise they wouldn't do it that way. But what the advantage is I can't really work out mathematically.
Maybe having 43 second place winners in last Saturday's PB offers some insight. 25.5 million tickets were sold, so with the odds of winning the 2nd place prize at about 1 in 11.688 million 2.2 winners would have been statistically normal. I can't tell you the chance of having 43 winners, because with a limit of 20 decimal places my Open Offic

Pick 3 Repeat Probability
hello cottoney, great job on the odds percentages,
can you calculate the value of the probabilities of the pick3 positions? example
478 = last draw
726 = next
repeated a digit, but not in the same position,
so the question for pick3, calculate the probability of pick3 of a digit not repeating in the same position as the last draw? please
we could create a filter at the next not repeat the position

Not A System: Studying A Digit
I played around with this sort of filtering but found no real advantage because one must first predict
some sort of key be it a digit, pair etc.. Each method has a finite pool of possibilities so the odds for
any one showing next are easy to calculate. It all boils down to being able to forecast / predict what
will show next.
I have written tons of these type filters into a toolbox of sorts which makes adding them to a program
very simple. The upside is they are very effective fil

powerball sales continue to drop
I like to do a little test to really see which game I play is more likely to return more of my money if I don't win a second prize of the jackpot. I calculate if I spent $500 in the last ten draws buying the 50 previous winning numbers or 25 of PB in my state(Ohio) the amount of the $500 I would win back.
Rolling Cash5(5/39)=$89/$500 or 18%
Ohio Classic Lotto(6/49)=$16/$500 or 3%
MegaMillions(5/75+1/15)=$35/$500 or 7%
PowerBall(5/59+1/35)=$54/$500 or 11%
I can see why PB is changi

How Random is Random?
We can calculate the probabilities of a lottery game because it's finite. This may sound like I am talking
out of my ass but consider this.
I can predict the winning set 100% of the time for any number game. What I can't do is make a make a
profit playing that way.
Because lottery games have finite number of possible out comes, you can cover them all and know the winning combination will be covered too but that is not predicting an outcome, that's simply saying any one of them cou

Lucky for Life multi-state lottery game set to expand next week
I was starting at the starting line 75C5 = 17,259,390 for the second prize MM odds. I know they calculate it by saying you could win other prizes.
Also the $365,000 for life will put most people in punitive tax brackets for a long time.
If you win the MM second prize most people will only have punitive taxes for the year they claim.
Most of my posts are intended to be baseline.
If you have a really good tax attorney I would bet your mileage would vary...but how much does

Are people changing the way they play the lottery?
It really doesn't matter what % they say the payouts are if you aren't getting any of it.
Somewhat true I guess, but the same can be said about draw games, because the majority payout % in those go to fund jackpots. Why would you play a game where only 50% is returned to players and 60% of that is paid to one person? Why not play a game where 70% is returned to players and only 10-20% is paid to jackpot winners, yet the top prize is still noteworthy and you win far more often? That's one of

How To Determine Winning Scratch-Off Lotto Tickets – Texas
I find scratch-offs more fun than drawings games so I'll take a gander here. What advantage are you purporting to calculate? Your post is a little confusing. Are you saying that based on numbers on the back of a ticket you know whether the pack is worth playing or not?
We already know how many winners are in the pack. The lottery says so in the game technical procedures, which aren't written on the ticket. You can also determine how far away the next winner is based on the odds of winning, wh

Do some number combinations have better odds?
Sorry Adobea78,
For once, Ronnie316 may have gotten someting PARTLY correct. I did not claim that studying a scaled down Lotto game would lead to better odds of winning. What I DID say is that a scaled down Lotto model would provide Ronnie316 with an opportunity to prove that his selection ideas would do that. From what you've posted here I suspect you would at least agree with that. Thus far, Ronnie has elected not to take advantage of the demonstration opportunities that a simple (5,2) Lott
