How can I calculate odds?
If I'm playing the Cash 25 and I'm playing a wheel where I choose 10 numbers (instead of 6), how much does that increase my odds of winning? The WV lottery site says that the odds of matching 6 are 1:177,100. But what if I choose 10 numbers and only have to match 6?

The draws are independent of each other. If one state has one draw a day for 50 days, there is always the chance that the same number sets will come up. (this has happened), Or one state has 50 draws in one day, or 50 states has one draw in one day, it's all the same. The odds are 1/1000 for each ticket.Quote: Originally posted by Todd on December 31, 2003TC,When trying to calculate odds for a specific pick across all states, how would you do it? TC,When trying to calculate odds for a specific pick across all states, how would you do it? I know one straight pick in a state is 1/1000, but if there are 48 drawings, I don't think it becomes 48/1000, because there is the possibility that different states can have the same numbers come up. How would you calculate the odds?

Are pre-draws corrupting your lottery strategy ?
You really gotta share a link with everyone here so we can all learn your awesome mathematics, really man, this is great stuff!! Am i denying a never drawn list? I just posted one, perhaps you missed it again, just like all those other facts i have posted. You are mixing up some things here. Ofcourse a number can go past 1000 draws before showing up, i showed that in that little list i posted half an hour ago which has info on all the states. And i know, it is a little list, one might have

Seeing patterns where none exist
No, your chances were still 1/1000. Going by what you say, your chances are 1/500 if it was an odd, and 1/1000 if it was even. If you want to calculate odds after the draw, I would say the odds were 0/1000, because you lost.

What's the Purpose of the Printed Time of Purchase on Tickets, If Drawing is 15 min to 1 hr Later?
I'll respect your privacy and not post your calculations publicly, but they're not correct. So as not to further derail this thread, I suggest posting your calculations in the Mathematics forum along with an explanation of what an odds calculator is. Is it an online calculator? They come in many flavors and how they calculate odds depends very much on what the inputs are. I think you may have misunderstood what the inputs should be when you came up with your answer. Anyway, on the math forum you

Why they call it Scientific Games?
Using science to to calculate odds and payout amounts to show a profit also includes setting payout amounts such that covering enough combinations to likely beat the odds doesn't pay either. If it could be done, it would have been done already with the pick3 games. There's only a thousand possible combinations and if you're boxing the combinations there's only 220. With present payout amounts in most states covering 50% of the possible combinations and winning is a break even point, for s

Statistically Speaking - QP's and PP's
CT Even if one could calculate the total sales for any given night, that would not give any indication of how many QP's vs SP's were purchased. If we make our calculatations based on the top prize winners of QP's vs SP's I don't think that it would hold true for lower prizes. I am a system player and even on a bad night I still beat the odds. Even If I play 10 lines and hit 2 of 5 on five of the lines I have smoked the odds. MO. list the total number of winners for each prize and

Lotto Strategy - Odds of winning vs Chances of winning
p(all cases) = 1 Odds and chances is the same. If you throw a dice and you are looking for the probability of throwing a 4 or 5 or 6, you get 3 in 6. p(4|5|6) = 0.5 or 1:2, but it truly is 3:6 in one roll. You have odds for outcome, and you might calculate odds of winning a certain amount of money. Winning a certain amount of money is an estimation because the payout can vary and there are taxes. As we are players and programmers, we look for making winning predictions, this me
