Monopoly Millionaires game
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't MMC's 2nd tier prize of $1 million essentially a raffle predicated on whether or not the jackpot is won? I ask that because I'm a fan of any state lottery sponsored raffle. For instance Connecticut is currently running SuperDraw , which is a raffle. It costs $10 per ticket, and there will be a maximum of 275,000 sold. (fewer than 275,000 if the end date/time is reached and all 275,000 tickets are not sold) There is one guaranteed top prize winner of $

Playing The Lottery Less Often Is The Best Strategy To Win A Lottery Jackpot Someday.
Let's see where I made a mistake. There are 70 numbers that can't be drawn and those numbers create 12,103,014 five number combinations. There are 14 bonus numbers that won't be drawn making 169,442,196 combos when multiplied by 14 that won't match a single number. The overall odds are 1:14.71 of winning something and that is about 6.8% of all the combos which is probably the number you used to calculate. I only included the tickets matching zero numbers without matching the bonus number and

"Beating the House!"
are you kidding, or what? What 'house' are you talking about? In a Casino one CAN stand (reasonable close to) even if s/he plays Black Jack or Roulette AND knows what s/he's doing. In casinos I play Hold'em, but that's not relevant here cuz at the poker table you play against other players, not against the house. In lottery NOBODY can stand even with the 'house' and consistantly win since that'd be mathematically nonsense. In lottery the odds are heavily, shamelessly in the house's favor. It

Playing PB with The Power Play in New York?
If you can calculate the odds of winning $40 million or more with a Sweet Millions ticket you'll know why people still play powerball in NY. What puzzles me is why so many people play PB or MM when they're at low levels and the lotto prize gets high. For March 22nd and 23rd MM was advertising a $20 million jackpot and lotto was advertising a $24 million jackpot. For anyone who was paying attention, the 2nd place lotto prize was $224k, compared to the $250k 2nd place MM prize. Both tickets are

Do some number combinations have better odds?
What is the probability that One(1) of the Lottery's 5 picks is among your 28? Two(2), Three(3), Four(4), Five(5)? With all the free lottery odds calculator on the Internet, that probably has been calculated many times. Besides, every serious lottery player has one in his tool box as I do. You just calculate the odds of matching five of fifty-six with 98,280 lines. I think I saw those results posted earlier in this thread.

Do some number combinations have better odds?
The only person talking in circles is you boney...... We understand that we are talking about a concept. It is NOT something that you can calculate on a piece of paper with a pencil. We are NOT talking about changing the actually odds of the game itself. I think LottoBoner said it best with the phrase expecting something to happen I like to like of it as manufacturing a win much like the Yankee's when they decide do things in a creative and different way in order to manufacture a run that oth

6 tickets from LA win $1 million megamillions 4/10
Hmmm, after doing some calculations, I've determined that, in terms of MEGAPLIER sales, the anticipated prize fund is 48.392% of sales, and 19.2076 cents of each $1 wagered on the Megaplier goes to pay the $1,000,000 prize winners ($750,000 actually, because the original $250,000 is covered by the first regular $1; also for the other prizes, you have to individually calculate the odds of winning $40,000, $30,000, $20,000, or an extra $30,000, $20,000, or $10,000, and so forth down to the extra $

So how did everyone fare last night MM??
There were 651,915,940 tickets sold so if we calculate the odds the same as we do for buying 10 tickets (17,500,000 to 1) we get odds 1 to 3.5. There were 16,352,618 tickets winning something or about 1 out of every 40 tickets. After reading many post the last few days and looking at the results, all we had to do is look at the odds charts on the websites and playslips. The odds of winning anything are 1 in 40 and the expected number of jackpot winning tickets was 3. While I agree we must pla

Why Do Mathematicians Consider The Lottery Random
As for that method - The math to work out the exact odds would be very complicated - If you are interested I can work out a rough estimate, but the math is actually impossible to do accurately since the method is based on variables I don't know, and I'm assuming you don't know. I could do the math with just the pool of 6500 fairly easily - but it seems to me that your friend made most of his money on the smaller pools, if I had that data - then I could calculate the odds of winning at le

Why Do Mathematicians Consider The Lottery Random
Ok. Hang on. You're completely misrepresenting what I said. I even DID say that it IS POSSIBLE - but that in my opinion it isn't true. I've said multiple times that every system I've seen tested has turned out to be false - and so I don't BELIEVE it's true. I've said that there is some small chance that we are wrong, Statistics and Probability as we know it today are wrong, but that the burden of proof is on YOU and other like minded people to prove it, because the laws of probability that peopl
