Do you think you deserve to win when you see people that throw it away
Pumpi, this country was founded in part to get away from ideas like yours about making laws giving government the right to confiscate anything. The government is supposed to be our servant, not our master and when they don't do what we want we can throw them out. We have enough unjust laws and crimes being committed against us by government, we don't need any more. Too many young people have grown up in an environment of government domination of their lives. They accept it without question. T

Are lotteries part of the solution to the crisis in states' budgets?
I will agree with you to a point on this Todd. The government involvement in every aspect of our lives is a large part of what's going wrong in America. The government should be for the people and by the people....not for the governement. In effect, what you have done is proved four4me's point. The simple answer on how to make state and federal defecits disappear is as simple as four4me said. However, due to government involvement and mismanagement of everything they underatake (not to mention c

Cash or annuity
You're right, I'd be buying gold and platinum! Gold or Platinum has no boundaries/borders as to what country it will spend in! Any precious metal of the like will due in the trouble times of any Government/nations failing financial sector! It's the only WORLDLY CURRENCY there is! It's better than some two sided printed piece of paper being back by nothing more than FAITH of some Government some where in the World! Most Governments are CORRUPT! I'll be damned, sounds like the United States fal

Government grabs Powerball cash
THE State Government has gouged more than $2 million from NSW lottery punters in a brazen cash grab to boost Treasury coffers. The Government secretly cut the prizemoney pool for Powerball by 1 per cent in a move quietly gazetted earlier this month. From now on, people who win on Powerball will share in just 56.5 per cent of the prize pool instead of 57.5 per cent. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,20817182-5001021,00.html

Lottery Taxation
This thread certainly has taken a life of its own, but I'll try to add my simple comments, as they relate to the original post.I think the federal government has a right to tax lottery winnings, just as they have a right to tax any other form of income.Would I want to get my jackpot prize without any taxes taken out? Of course! Just like I wish that the government did not tax my regular income! The reality is that with our system of government, taxes are required in order to do things like fund

Lottery Winners Remaining Anonymous.
You damn right! How dare the lottery officials expose people like an open meat market! Absolutely, in some states, too much information: your picture, name, city, and state plastered so the hustlers and pimps can prey on unsuspecting victims, the lottery winners!Perhaps, most people wouldn't mind the publicity if the John Q. public would use their common sense (that's asking too much, right), and stop asking for handouts: only the family should take that chance, not strangers! So, my response

Online lotteries in Brazil
Quote: Originally posted by Todd on July 10, 2004Thanks for the link.BobP is right: that is not an official government lottery, it is a private Internet lottery.Almost without exception, I advise people to stay away from those, because they are accountable to no one other than their personal bank accounts. In other words, if you think government lotteries have the potential for corruption, that potential for corruption would be ten-fold for private lotteries. Now, I believe your original questio

Would You Switch Candidates To Get Nationwide Internet Lottery Play?
You must be aware that Communist Party of China (a/k/a Chinese Communist Party and/or CCP) is the ruling government of that country and has been since 1949. I utilized communist Chinese in my comment so as to distinguish the governing body of China from the people of China, many of whom are oppressed and victims of a brutal government (and are undoubtedly decent people who probably would love the freedoms we enjoy). If you haven't heard the term communist Chinese in 40 years, that is indicative

Everyone lives off the government one way or another That may be true for public sector, welfare recipients and Government employees but in my part of town it is the Government who live and spend with proceeds from us tax payers.
