Florida Holiday Millionaire Raffle 2016
If it hits 100,000 in sales tomorrow, ticket sales will have averaged 5,900 per day over a 17-day period. The 2015 Raffle saw an average of 7,200 per day in the first 18 sales days. So the early sales volume hasn't increased over last year. I think Florida Lottery is hanging their hat on the longer sales period to effect a sellout. It will be interesting to see what happens to sales volume once the instant win possibility expires.

Florida Lottery Holiday Millionaire Raffle
Thanks for the update on the number of tickets sold, fangkid. I'm not surprised sales are starting out slow. If tickets were selling at the expected daily average, after 7.5 days of sales (counting today, Saturday as a half day, 'cuz it ain't over yet) they should have sold around 122,250 tickets by now. I know that Saturday tops ticket sales for Fantasy 5, so today may bump up the raffle sales, too. But no way are they going to make up a shortfall of 80,000 in one day. I'm sure the sales volume

Are Mega Millions sales really that bad now?
Ticket sales are quite a bit smaller then they were just as recently as 2012. The MM jackpot that was hit Tuesday for around 321 million was the result of 20 rollovers. Ticket sales for the drawing with an advertised JP of 321 million were a little more then $75 million. The 3/30/2012 jackpot of $640 million was hit after 18 rollovers. In 2012 there had been 14 rollovers and the JP was at 200 million and for that drawing there were over 66 million in ticket sales for that drawing. The past run h

Why does the Mega Millions Jackpot not start at $40 mil?
It all boils down to sales, sales, sales, and cost. MM puts 32.577% of ticket sales towards the jackpot. That $8.3 million starting cash jackpot after the recent win? Deficit. Sales were $18,035,251 which means the jackpot was only funded with roughly $5,875,344. Powerball can afford higher starting jackpot because 1) higher ticket price yet comparable sales, and 2) they have a reserve pool which deducts 2% to pad deficits. MM may have a reserve too, I don't remember. Yes, early wins can b

Jackpot Estimation for Dec. 20th, and 24th
It's just past 3PM on Monday and the estimate was bumped up to $586 million. It could still increase substantially, and I'm sure they're being conservative because sales are so much lower than past sales for jackpots in this range, but I'm not expecting anything over 650 by Tuesday night. If it does roll, maybe sales will finally be as big as in the past, and it could reach 900 or more for Friday night. If sales remain more modest we could see 600 maximum tomorrow and only 800 or so for Frida

Anyone else find the jump in MM j/p surprising?
The lowest ticket sales I saw for the MM starting $12 million jackpot was around $14 million and the cash value is under $9 million. The individual states are responsible for paying the secondary prizes out of their sales so while collectively they show a small profit, some states could be in the red. With 5 + 0 paying $1 million in PB, that could definitely create problems for lotteries with smaller ticket sales. Back in the day when Lotto games started at $1 million, but paid the winners in

New Powerball / Mega Millions Survey
It seems pretty clear that it's an actual pool, and that's why the numbers have to be QP's. In theory it could work without actually selling 10 identical tickets, and in the event that a partial pool won the jackpot the remainder would roll over to the next drawing. In reality I can't imagine that it would be done that way, and there's no reason to do so. Overall ticket sales may not be a multiple of 10, bt they can easily sell pool tickest in sets of 10 by simply stopping pool sales a bit befor

Lotto Georgia vs Lotto South
Ichoro said: They seem to be following the same pattern as Virginia and other states. The growth in sales is primarily in instant games and Mega Millions. Everything is roughly the same or down slightly from 3 years ago. The only exceptions are pick-3, which is down 20%, and pick-4, which is up more than 25%. The odds for the pick-5 and pick-6 games are so high and the rewards for the secondary prizes so small for each that the majority of sales migrate to the game with the highest prize t

Ohio Online Game Sales Temporarily Suspended
I just went to purchase my Classic Lotto ticket for Wednesday evening but due to a new lottery system being implemented in Ohio on July 1, 2009, the Ohio Lottery website states the following: Online Game Sales Temporarily Suspended After Final Drawings Before July 1 After the final drawings June 30, sales for Pick 3, Pick 4, Rolling Cash 5, EZPLAY games and Mega Millions will be suspended. Classic Lotto sales will be suspended after the June 29 evening drawing. Keno sales will be halted ar

Anyone else find the jump in MM j/p surprising?
MM $12M starting jackpot is a joke. After thousands of pages discussing the PB and MM jackpots, you still don't understand it. The current $20 million prize is an annuity based on the cash value of $14.3 million from the $25 million wagered on the last drawing combined with what is expected to be wagered on the next drawing. Neither game has a money tree so their starting jackpots are based on expected ticket sales. MM had larger sales following the last run, but it was expected because sal
