Mega Millions Sets A New Record
The jackpots may be going up at a record rate, but players are apparently not happy with the new matrix.According to unofficial MM sales data posted at lottoreport.com, total sales dropped from about $49 million on July 22 to about $14 million on July 26, when the jackpot dropped to $12 million.Sales went up by about $855 thousand on July 29 when the jackpot rose to $15 million.Sales on Aug 2, with a jackpot of $23 million, went down about $295 thousand.Usually a higher jackpot prompts increase

Billlion-dollar Jackpot for PB
Ticket sales since the big jackpot was hit have slowed down quite a bit since then. The annuity JP was at 334 million and for that drawing there was 108 million in sales for that drawing. It rolled and the advertised JP started out at 400 million but went to 528 million with ticket sales of 352 million for the drawing. The next drawing started out with a advertised 675 JP but went to 947 million with ticket sales of 880 million. Since then here a few examples of how ticket sales are nowhere near

Mega Millions sales
A couple of months ago i posted about how PB sales were much smaller then they were from 2 or 3 years ago and i mentioned i knew MM sales were down also but did not really know how much they were down. Last night there was no winner so i looked up past drawings and ticket sales. The advertised JP is showing 129 million and this is the result of 13 rollovers. Ticket sales for the 13 drawings are about 226 mill. I looked back to 2011 and found a jackpot that was hit for 319 mill after 14 rollovers

MM ticket sales for 2015 vs PB sales when it went to 1.5 billion
The ticket sales for the last 2 drawings of the record PB jackpot total was 2billion150million dollars. If i read it right ticket sales for the 104 MM drawings in 2015 were 2billion167million dollars. MM had one JP go to 270 mill another one hit 260 mill and one other one reach 200 mill. Part of this would have to do with the price of tickets and the fact that there biggest JP was for 270 mill and tickets sales were 52 mill for that drawing. Found this a bit interesting.

Will we see half a billion in 2012?
The advertised jackpot for PB has passed 250 million 4 times in the last 26 months. When the price doubles the amount that goes to the jackpot will roughly double also. If the odds and ticket sales both remained the same we might expect to see advertised jackpots of 500 million or more every 6 or 8 months, on average. We already know that the odds will be slightly better, so it's a bit less likely to have sales that high before there's a winner. What we don't know is what will happen to sales vo

We would probably need a $400 million jackpot to sell the same amount of tickets that were sold for a $280 million jackpot back in 2001.Brad

Powerball sets a new record
Mr. Doctor, you're right, sales are the determinant, not number of states...but for simplicity I doubled the sales, making the assumption that sales are proportionally aligned with the number of states, which is not necessarily true. And you can't double the number of states in Powerball....but the point is, if you double the population base (a better reference than states), you will see greater sales, no? Will sales be exactly double? Will they be lower/higher...difficult to say without dat

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
Quote: Originally posted by prob987 on March 07, 2004 The powerball has rolled over again on 3/6/04, nine million annuity dollars to 79 million annuity dollars. As you can see for the Powerball results for January - February, Wednesday sales are actually less than the previous Saturday's sales despite the jackpot
