Quick Picks can't match the power of Self Picks
You can make a good guess at the answers by looking at the odds, but why does it matter? The statistics say that 70 to 80% of sales are QP's and 70 to 80% of winners are QP's. That also tells us that 20 to 30% of sales are self picks and 20 to 30% of winners are self picks. Both win in proportion to sales, and neither one has a better chance than the other.

Lottery Game Design White Papers
I did as I suggested in my previous post for games I've played when their jackpots are their lowest amount with cash option. Buying all 258890850 MegaMillons combinations would cost $258,890,850.00 and payout $54,856,964.00 or 21% of sales. Buying all 292201338 PowerBall combinations would cost $548,402,676.00 and payout $119,466.048.00 or 20% of sales. Buying all 13983816 Ohio's Classic Lotto(6/49) combinations would cost $13,983,816.00 and payout $2,328,790.00 or 16% of sales. B

Mathematics and the Lottery
Actually, no, there IS a pot or as lotteries call it, a prize pool/fund, based on a percentage of sales, usually 50%. Not all lotteries are fixed prizes. Check out CA and NJ lotteries which are pari-mutuel for pick 3/4 and have variable prizes based upon sales and number of winners.

Mathematics and the Lottery
Who knows, there might be enough unclaimed tickets to make up the 5%, but money the lotteries give to the state is in the 30% range of what they collect in profits. The stores are the ones booking the bets and the money they pay out to yesterday's winners is the money they collected from today's ticket sales. The 50% pick-3 edge is an average based over time so it's not accurate to say the winners are paid out of that pot because part of that pot was paid out to past winners. From the store's

Mathematics and the Lottery
It can hardly be a 50/50 split between states and players since states cover the cost or running the games and pay 5% of sales to retailers.

I can predict one number for sure in a random game
Looks like the staff at Steve Player has come up with a new system and is about to send out another 10,000 sales letters.

Mega Millions Just The Jackpot
To your point about variance, yes, JTJ is obviously going to be higher than a regular ticket. Both are going to be a huge variance, regardless. So, if variance is the concern, don't play the games to begin with. You will get a few bucks back by playing a regular ticket and hitting the minor prizes, but as percentage of $ spent, it's still very low. The return is basically predicated on hitting the jackpot, which the average person more than likely would not hit in a thousand lifetimes. Ther

How do I prove my state lottery's CGNs are fixed?
Ouch! my head hurts now! So much to absord and so little time (as absorbing all that would require me to go to school for a good couple of years and get a math degree of some sort , lol) Awsome post though! I've often wondered about Indiana's lottery and how to prove it was rigged. I think the easiest and most compelling result would be to put in FOI request with the state pertaining all the sales data and compare the amounts of each combination sold against the actual draw results (say t

S.C. Millionaire Raffle Tickets & Close Calls
Ok Fatbird, Lets talk. I'm in S.C.also. I purchased about twenty-five tickets so far. I talk to a sales rep from S.C. lottery the other day and he to predicts they want sell all one million tickets So the way i look at it is, we have better chance of getting ran over by a car if we were standing in the middle of the road now verses standing in our yard, than winning the big prize. I predict the sales will really increase the last two weeks. I'm looking at a ticket i puchased 12/16, and the numb

Why not wait? Until it's a 99 % chance.
ID is computerized and has been messing me up for 3 years now. They just keep on skippin. Just when you think you got um, they re-boot. The Commish has just recently changed, she will take over soon. Hope she will loosen up the pick3 so more people will want to play. The Scratch off's ....well they say that's where most of the lottery sales come from....I'd like to see daily payout's of Pick 3 of at least $100,000 a day not most days of $1200 or less total for the WHOLE STATE!!!!! It's so obvio
